The 91 Caprice would have had the IAT sensor on the air cleaner.

That being said my 91 Rudemaster (same car , same ECU) really likes its heated intake air.

Part 2 of that story is that the cold air intake on these cars is actually more restricted than the manifold heated air.......

Hi all,

I've recently become interested in possibly putting EFI on my Barracuda, and have been trying to read and digest the info in this forum. It's all very intriguing. The problem is there are some 320 differently-headed posts and I'm not finding any basic entries that outline how to do it. Is there a post or posts that detail everything? And has this been successfully done to a daily driver? I would like to try this, but don't want to re-invent the wheel or spend the rest of my life trying to tune whatever I may put together. I have read DiBiase's "Electronic Fuel Injection for the Slant Six", but this was written nearly 10 years ago. Is there something newer that, perhaps, uses a later generation GM system? As always, thanks for any help to this EFI noob.

Roger
That is a pretty car, and one I have come to admire much. Take good care of it.

Thanks, Sam. I've always really liked this body style, and I'm trying to do justice to it. In fact, I recently upgraded to an 8.25" rear and front discs from a '73-76 A-body, and new wheels and tires. Now I just need to get it to run well, and I'll be very happy.

One other note on GM TBI - they didn't run an air temperature sensor on most TBI applications

There might be a few systems out there that didn't have an IAT (intake air temp) sensor, but I can't think of any one specific example from the early 80's on up. I have seen quite a few (on Fords & GM trucks) where the IAT screwed into the int manifold itself. MAP style fuel injection (aka speed-density)NEEDS air temp sensor to compute air density.

Most TBI systems that had hot air systems to help cold run operation (& that's pretty much all of them) wouldn't run worth a damn if they lost that extra heat.

Another fun thing that I've seen over the years is the opposite from several posts here. A car (carb or TBI) with heated air cleaner starts & runs OK cold, but starts to lose power & pings when warmed up.

The cause? the flapper door can STAY in the full hot position, usually due to a bad vac control "stat". So the eng is fed (over)heated air .

[By the way-that IS a really sweet notchback fish]
