At Mason Dixon the track charges us $35 to race, Spectators are $10. If you pay your $10 you can ride right into the pits and park if you want to. Of the $35 we pay to race the track gives us $20 or $25 back to use as a purse. Do any of your tracks out West do anything similar?

To the above from the track we add the money from hat / tee shirt sales plus the money that Ryan, Lou and myself put up, and we have a nice payout. Last year about $800 for each race. We paid back $15-$20 to 1st round losers. So the whole cost to race at the track was only $40 for the weekend. Winners got $250+

I don't think the casual racer or once a year local guy that we need to come out and build the field, is going to pay $40-50 a day to race, to likely get knocked out in the first round. That is why we do our payouts clear back to 1st round losers.

Rick

I should have asked more questions about payouts (and ladders) before last year's Clay City race.

I just went with what the track offered on Saturday and matched it myself for Sunday. It was a good payout, but only for the Top 3 if I remember correctly.

I'll definitely be picking some brains at the banquet this weekend so I do a better job for everyone this year.

To get back on the Event Calendar topic: When I fly out to CA to buy Doc's '61 Valiant wagon to drive back I'll make sure and schedule it so that I can make it to one of the Killer Bees races! :D

I don't want to stick my foot in my mouth here, but why not have some activities that raise funds for these reasons? I've done more fundraising over the years then I care to admit, but a reserve fund to help others get to races, add to 'pots', etc... would deffinitely help out... If this group is interested in getting something going of this nature, let me know..

Debbie

A large percentage of the PNW racers have been polled on the issue of the Saturday Gamblers race. We do not want this format, and don't need a payout. We have talked to the track. This buy in is not a requirement of the track.

Please make the necessary changes to the Killerbees web site for the Saturday event.

It is highly recommended that the 2nd Slant Six race on Sunday be revisited as it interferes with our local series. Car count will diminish precipitously due to our involvement. Concensus of the regulars at Woodburn is that we plan to compete in that series on Sunday. Racers will not be permitted to race both concurrently.

It would be best to get this ironed out for those traveling long distances.

If the Gamblers buy in is required on Saturday, car count is going to be low. Car count on Sunday could be lower yet.

Not sure what the motivation is for the fees schedule. Sac for instance is $140 plus the track fee of $40 to race for a 1st place payout of $200 (assuming you win both days)...not logical. I'm surprized at this years format with all the fees and such. As a racer, why would I travel all the way to other events outside Sac and pay all that money when I can stay in Sac or Infineon and race for $50 or $60 (Non killerbees events) with a payout of at least $400? I have a feeling that with gas prices the way they will be from now on, Killerbees racing may become local events with only those racing from that local area. Where is all this money going anyway...not the winners. Good luck with that.

As for the fees the tracks charge, if you go in as a spectator Woodburn charges you $20 for Sat & for Sun $25, which gives you right to enter the pits for a total $45. Racers pay $75 to run both days ($30 or if you do the breakdown $15/day).

We try to keep the entry fees down, I realize most of our racers have to travel a good deal to make the race and we appreciate that. The $25 gate fee goes to the track but the $25 race fee all goes toward the purse plus what the sponsors provide for the purse. This year we are trying a gambler race the next day to make it more of a 2 day event in hopes of attracting more racers.
