For this reason, a small-nose 1967 or earlier torque converter cannot be installed on a 1968 or later transmission, nor the other way round.
Does this mean on a 68 and up will swap without hiccups?

Clarify the question, please. 68 and up "what" to "what"?

904 trans
A 68 up converter will fit a 68 up trans. A 68 up converter will not fit a 67 down trans. A 68 up converter/trans will not fit a 67 down engine. A 67 down converter/trans will fit a 67 down engine, A 67 down trans/converter will fit a 68 up engine, if a crankshaft adapter bushing is used.

727 trans
Same as abouve, except The 727 trans/converter of any year will not fit the 67 down engine without the factory adapter, which are hard to find.

I think I have that all correct.

I think you got it. I was looking at a local ad for a 68 engine and wanted to put it in my 80 truck, 3speed with overdrive in the truck now engine ok but red the older ones came with more power stock.

Portland torque said they could cut up my 69 converter and make it work between the 66 engine I have and my old 69 727 auto. I dropped it off today and they quoted me 250$. Well see if it all fits together when there done.

I just had a custom converter made by Midwest converters for $225 with shipping and a 2400 stall. I have not put it in yet but it sounded like a decent deal.
