Where does that rear line go? What does it attach to? When you capped off the runner 6 fitting, how did it drive? Looks like you did a nice job, don't give up yet..... When you rechecked the vacuum, what fitting did you use? 10 or 12" isn't right for a stock cam @ 750 rpm idle.......your valves must be adjusted too tight. Try .012 and .022, then recheck vacuum. The best place to plug the vacuum gauge into is at the carb base....not the distributor port. I "T" off the vacuum pull off for the choke. |

Well after replaceing the carb. and intake/exhaust gasket (thanks for the links Dan) and the car still running bad with only 12" of vac. I let it sit awhile to think about what I was going to do. Well last weekend I decieded to work on the car and went over all the vac hoses and checked and tightened the carb and in/ex manifold nuts. I started the car and of course it still idled bad so thinking that the carb was not for this car I hooked up the vac. guage and started adjusting the mixture screws out and ended up getting 16" of vac. and a smoother running engine. Well today after watching a youtube vid of someone adjusting their valves I decieded to give it a try. I'm a monkey see monkey do type of person reading just gives me a headache. After printing out Dan,s directions (thanks again Dan) I embarked on my learning journey of valve adjustment to find over half of each in/ex were so tight I could not get the guage inbetween the rocker and valve. Well after adjusting and readjusting and checking 4 more times I was satisfied with my work. WOW is all I have to say. I did not think having the valves adjusted right would make such a big difference. After buttoning everything up I checked the idle and the timing and then checked the vac. and was surprised to see 18" on the guage. I then readjusted the mix. screws and idle. Test drive ZOOM I want to thank everyone for your help sometimes it just takes awhile for me to get things done. |
