Well after replaceing the carb. and intake/exhaust gasket (thanks for the links Dan) and the car still running bad with only 12" of vac. I let it sit awhile to think about what I was going to do.
Well last weekend I decieded to work on the car and went over all the vac hoses and checked and tightened the carb and in/ex manifold nuts. I started the car and of course it still idled bad so thinking that the carb was not for this car I hooked up the vac. guage and started adjusting the mixture screws out and ended up getting 16" of vac. and a smoother running engine.
Well today after watching a youtube vid of someone adjusting their valves I decieded to give it a try. I'm a monkey see monkey do type of person reading just gives me a headache. After printing out Dan,s directions (thanks again Dan) I embarked on my learning journey of valve adjustment to find over half of each in/ex were so tight I could not get the guage inbetween the rocker and valve. Well after adjusting and readjusting and checking 4 more times I was satisfied with my work.
WOW is all I have to say. I did not think having the valves adjusted right would make such a big difference. After buttoning everything up I checked the idle and the timing and then checked the vac. and was surprised to see 18" on the guage. I then readjusted the mix. screws and idle.

she's running good now all I need to do is open the exhaust to 2 1/4 and I'm rolling.I want to thank everyone for your help sometimes it just takes awhile for me to get things done.
