Valve bodies are essentially hydraulic computers, full of basic (Basic? :? ) If/Then circuits.
Just like with the silicon variety, one little glitch and it all crashes

Kudos to you for sticking with it and finding out Why instead of throwing it away.
That is when this hobby becomes a true learning experience instead of just a way to fill our time and garages.

Also, major respect to Larry and Mark at Transgo - well done, gentlemen 8)

Was it the same issue with both valve bodies?

Curiosity question.
Was the washer OD reasonably close to the piston OD?

In that the washer isn't centered on the piston (as the nubbin was), and if it were too small, it could impart an angled loading when impacted. This'd result in offset wear and eventual jamming.

Edit: Stupidity answer. Notice the photo, Dick.

No, the reason the known good one did not work was because the Stage 3 kit blocks off the governor pressure port in the transmission case. So that one could not work because of that plug no allowing the correct pressure to get back to the valve body.

Lou, Not this week! :D :D

I use one slightly smaller than the OD of the plug. That way it sat flat on the plug and was too large to get behind that little nub no matter how it moved.

Thank you. I finally got smart enough to actually look at the picture as well.

Another curiosity question. How far does that piston actually move in use?
I'm putting a 904 into Cassi, and know very little of slush pumps. Time to start learning.
