Lou: The radiator is original to the car by all appearances. It has been totally gone through by a local radiator shop (Gold Star - boiled and rodded-out) and was pronounced fit by them. My son was working on it yesterday with my buddy and they seemed to have resolved it somehow (I was home preparing for today's snowstorm). They installed a thermostat with a "tickler" (a Subaru part, actually, that fit perfectly) and then had an event of some type that resulted in a fairly explosive boil-over. Upon refilling, it proceeded to make a number of rather alarming noises (they mentioned thumping and cracking sounds!) and then it began to run exactly at 180 degrees. I'm guessing that they purged an air bubble. Perhaps we've exercized that particular demon? |

Was out driving the car today. Zero heating issues. It seems that once you purge the air from the cooling system, you're all set. |

Glad that you expunged the "demon" air bubble, it seems. The shot of your dash brought back some memories of driving my Dad's '60 Fury wagon in the 60's. Also, to a lesser extent, my '59 DeSoto daily driver a bit later. Beautiful slant you have prepared! Thanks for sharing. There's a guy, actually a group, on Youtube, Coldwarmotors in Alberta, Ca., that's redoing a '60 Fury. Just the entire body and trim so far. They work on older cars and come and go on the Fury, so you have to look over the videos to find it. |
