Sounds great, Rick! Please send me that grind number and specs for it when you get a chance. It may not be on the list I just sent you? 105 deg is exactly where I would put it.

Lou

Sure will Lou! It is on the list you sent as well. I will send the new list to Ceej and see if he can post it on the FAQ for us.

Installed a new set of lifters, then the head. Reassembled a good set of rocker arms and torqued everything to spec. On Christmas eve while all the boys were here, and after we opened our gifts, I had them lift off the hood and set it in the bed.

Friday 26th I drove it inside and drained all the fluid and started to disconnect everything. About 2 hours with my normal coffe breaks and it was about ready to pull.

Saturday morning I unbolted the convertor and put a strap under the transmission. Then hooked the engine onto the crane and lifted it out. Swapped over some stuff and soon It will be ready to go back in. Decided to weld a bung on the header while it is out so I can hook up an 02 sensor.

Oops!! I forgot to tell Andrew Shank I did this! He wanted to help. Sorry I forgot again!

Swapped on the intake and exhaust and sat the new engine down into the truck. Whoa Whoa Whoa! Something is really wrong. Engine was lined up pretty well so I rolled the truck forward about 4" to have some rearward tension on it. When I touched it to wiggle it just a bit, It fell onto the dowels!!! :D :D No that didn't just happen. It went so fast I didn't even have any bolts ready to put in! :D Oh well, even a blind squirrel gets a nut once in a while.

Installed motor mount brackets and mounts, starter, alternator and some other small items. I am installing a new throttle cable so that will go in tomorrow as well as the radiator and fluids. Probably have it running by afternoon if all goes as planned.

Just in case anyone has one of the Hooker truck headers that are 6 into 1 (that hooks up to the stock exhaust pipe) take some advice from me. They are a royal pain to install. Much worse than any car headers I have installed. But they are much easier to install out on the engine stand. They go right in the truck with them mounted so save yourself the headache if you can.

After new throttle cable install (Longer and better, non plastic ends) I installed the radiator and some fluids. Engine fired up and built @ 46# of oil pressure. Moved timing a bit to keep it running and then ran it up to about 1900 rpm for 20 minutes to break in the cam and lifters. Backed the idle down to 800 and sat the timing to about 6 BTDC and adjusted the carb. Don't see any leaks yet so that is always good. I did install a 195 degree thermostat since these old truck don't have very good heaters in them. Oil pressure at 195 degrees and idle was about 32#. Now to pick up the 912 tools that get out of my tool box every time I work in the garage. :D :D

It burnt a piston Sept 2024 and this was a slow rebuild of that engine. I had swapped in my back up race engine for a temp fix.

Test drove a bit ago and this engine runs really nice. Camshaft has plenty of power too. I'll put some miles on it soon.

Fixing that engine from the Knoxville Race, eh?

Is this a new cam that was not in your engine that burned a piston?

Correct Greg. I wanted something with a little better idle characteristics and so now was the time to switch. I'll post the Oregon number after I look it up. I believe 212 duration at .050 and .446 lift.

Correct Cam specs- Oregon #2106E - Exhaust lobe on intake and exhaust. 214 duration @.050, .444 lift ,110 LSA
