True, but it sure idles nice :D

Well, at least you are not taking a 45 min. break every 15 min!

At least you people are getting some work done, on the vehicles. I haven't been able to get any time for the "toys". My red 64 Valiant is still in the storage place. I want to set up a 600 sq/ft steel garage, but the wait for the permit is nonsense.

I took it for two 15-20 minute drives today and allowed it to warm up and cool down several times. Cold start at @ 26 degrees was great. I want to swap the 02 gauge out of the race car into the truck and do some genuine tuning on the carb. It drives fine but I really don't know where I am mixture wise. Also been slowly adjusting my kick down cable to get it how I like it. Denny will be here shortly and we can put the hood back on. :D :D

Nice work. Don't let any of those boys drive it. You always end up with broken stuff when Ryan, Denny, and to a lesset extent, Andrew drive your stuff!

Drove truck for little over 100 miles. Changed out the oil filter. After I get another couple hundred miles on it I'll do a full oil and filter change. I installed a new factory style throttle cable on the truck. They just work better in my opinion than any I have used that bolt into the firewall. Made a small loop in the cable to get a nice shot at the bracket at the carb. Even with the loop it works silky smooth. Made several small adjustment to the kickdown cable and have it working how I want.

Big debate for me is whether or not to try and make it shift a little less harsh. I have a stage 2 Transgo kit in it and I love it for towing the car and trailer. There is no slippage. But for the truck alone it shifts pretty hard. ( Actually will chirp the tires in the 1-2 shift sometimes)

Next I'll run the valves again and swap in the 02 sensor to zero in the 500 Carter. Runs really good as is, but I'd like to know where I'm at. Not sure if I said it before but power wise it feels almost as good as the backup race engine with a much larger cam but with great idle and drivability. I like it! :D

Run it down the strip with the same gears as your backup race engine to compare its performance.

I'm glad you're enjoying the progress on your projects.

Sounds like great results so far, Rick. Tuning and the right combination can often meet or beat "higher performance" stuff, especially in a street driven vehicle.

At this point I'm not all that worried about speed in the truck. It runs well, feels plenty powerful and sits and idles like a stock engine at 750-800 rpm. I'll probably stick my 3.23 gears back in it and call it a day. :D :D

Ran the truck for @ another hundred miles and still all is well! Runs great. Started it this morning after sitting all week at 26 degrees and it fired up and purred like a kitten. More to come. :D

Is this the cam in the truck?

Sure is. I really like it. Idles like a stocker and has plenty of power too.
