Well, conditions were all over the place today. It was low 90's when I made my time runs, and low 80's by the time we ran the 2nd round. I took some more jet out of it this morning before I loaded the car. I think I am pretty close now. Will pull the plugs before I go to Iowa next weekend maybe. Anyhoo, car was slow as expected. High temps and humidity, and low barometer. My buddies with the fancy weather stations said the air was right about 4000' during time runs. Car went 13:37@101 and 13:22@101 in time runs. I dialed 13:21 and crossed my fingers. First round I got a big block 68 Barracuda. I thought I was dead late on the tree, but a couple seconds later my scoreboard csme on when he redlit. I ran it on out and went 13:23@99. My lights was an .012, so I was not late. Not sure where the mph went, but we did have the normal Joliet 30 mph headwind. Second round I drew my old friend Owen Proffitt in his low 10 second '66 Chevelle. Once again I dialed 13:21. Thought I was late again on the tree, but the red came on. Ran it out and went 13:14 still at only 99 mph. It picked up mph in the 1/8th, so maybe it's a little lean now. All in all a fun day, and the car is alive and well to go to Iowa next weekend. |

Man! It is so cool to see Buzzin' out there tearin' it up again after so many years! Those new wheels really look good too! The spoiler adds just a little bit of a "Bamboozler" look to it. I like it. |

Let me preface this with saying I liked this track. However, they did something I have never seen done before. They had the rollout set for jr. dragsters. It was almost impossible to stage without turning on both bulbs at the same time. Since we were on a .400 Pro tree, this really sucked. I got caught by it in the first round and was dead late. He got caught in the second round and was redlighted. I left in the final when the tree flashed and went -.052 red. Car ran decent for the conditions. Best was 8:39. It was hot and muggy. It got even muggier after the sun went down. Like I said, nice little track. Very Clay Cityish. Only other thing I didn't like was it was freaking dark. After I turned off the track it was pitch black. If I come back here the car will be getting headlights. |

Against my better judgement I stayed today and tried it again. It rained until about 10, then back to unbearbly hot and muggy. Found out today the issue with the starting line is actually the lights themselves. The concrete pads they are mounted on have sunk. They had worked on them for a week just to get them to work. I decided to take some more jet out. Took the carb apart and found a gasket deteriorated and possibly plugging the rear accelerator pump passage. Took 2 more numbers out of the back side. Put it all back together and made a couple adjustments. Car now starts and idles even better than before. Charged the battery and waited for time runs. Conditions were just as bad as yesterday. I headed up and got right out on track. Car stumbled going up on the brake, but recovered. Went 8:58@81, almost a tenth better than my first pass yesterday. Made 1 more just before they closed staging. No stumble this time and an 8:50@81. Dialed 8:48 and headed up. Drew a 72 Charger dialed 7:94. Not sure why, but when I staged the car rocked forward on the brake and rattled me. Tree activated and I let go of the button. -.007 red and an 8:49. Other guy was -.073 red and dead on. Packed up and headed to Story City to meet Mike. Right now I am really trying to convince myself not to sell everything and buy my Hellcat. Mike says Hi! |

Sounds like fun to me, except for the muggy part. Want to move to Blacksburg? It has been hot, but pretty dry so not bad. You can use my shop anytime, buddy! Lou |

Cool... Winters are pretty nice. Usually about 5-8 snowfalls of 2-8" and they melt pretty quickly. Highs usually above freezing. Lou |
