Some gas in the cell and a battery and she fired right up! No leaks or funny noises... I drove it up the street and back. Brakes feel good too. I won't mess with it at this point. Now I'm doing some nonessential weight savings and clean up on it for the race. See ya in a couple weeks! |

Don't get too excited! The only change I am making is my gears. If Dennis is right I may be disappointed! Rick |

I started a new job last week that keeps me at the office until as late as 9:30 PM and had a 4-H competition and swim meet all weekend (7:30 AM - 7:30 PM), so it looks like we'll just load the Duster on the trailer and hope for the best again... |

GodsRods Duster II ran like a champ and didn't skip a beat this weekend at the Farmington and Wilkesboro Slant 6 drag races! We even won the event at Farmington running in the 8.90s in the 1/8th mile. Kay Hamby beat me in the first round at Wilkesboro, but the car was running the number (9.0s). I hit the brakes a little too hard at the big end to run a 9.10 on my 8.99 dial in. That 9.10 was the slowest pass of the weekend. I never turned a wrench all weekend! Big thanks to my son, Michael who is turning into one heck of a crew chief! And the big news of this event is the long rivalry between Mater & Cookie! No,... We didn't line up next to each other in our long awaited Grudge Match... We DID, however, team up and have a great time! And even BIGGER news.... Cookie ain't a Poser no more!!! Yep, he strapped into GodsRods Duster II and made a pass! His first time down the dragstrip. I can't wait to do this again! |

GodsRods Duster II made some more passes at Clay City last weekend. Ron Hamby drove it Saturday. He blew the engine in the Dart Friday night, so he used the Duster to try and earn some points in his quest for a fourth National Championship. It was running 14.19 - 14.29 Rob Venable drove it Sunday. He ran it in both the Slant 6 and Super ET classes and had some fun. Cookie said Rob's hooked now. The guy that did the original artwork for the GodsRods cartoon back in the mid 90's saw the car and thought it was cool that his artwork was still out there being used. Not sure the fate of GodsRods Duster II at this point. It will likely go into storage either here or with Dennis... |

I took a bunch of ice and snow off of it Sunday... I really need to get back over there and remove the carb and drain the fuel cell... And maybe find another tarp to throw over it... |

As soon as it gets above freezing I'll finally get the carb off and drain the fuel cell. I sure am glad I did remember to drain the water out of the block and radiator! These sub zero temps woulda done some serious damage other wise. Long term plan for GodsRods Duster II at this point is to store it on the car trailer with some sort of makeshift enclosure built around it. This is Kentucky. It'll work just fine. |

Thanks Dennis! I appreciate that offer. I dun that kinda thing all over Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas and Arizona the last time I went overseas... I don't wanna do that again. I'll have all my junk in one place (except my '56 Dodge truck in AZ). The neighbors will keep an eye on it for me and both Andrew and Chase will be close enough to swing by on occasion. If it ain't there when I get back, then it ain't there when I get back I guess. |
