my car likes high advance baseline numbers and less total as yours. I have been running 15 to 17 deg BTDC initial 23 to 28° BTDC total, the car likes more like 23-25° BTDC total. But my cranking pressure readings were like between 120 and 150 PSI hot all plugs removed. Do you have a mini starter? do you remove all plugs and the carburetor before reading the gauge? are you still cranking the engine more than the necessary for getting the needle to read ONLY ONCE?

I zip tie all 4 barrels open on the carb and remove all plugs first. I crank engine over 8 times with the mini starter. 8 times is the same as 12 times or more. Instruction that came with the kit said 6-8 times.

wouldn't you do this as a personal favor to me? I want you to take the cranking pressure reading turning over the engine just enough to get the needle to move, ONCE, twice at most. hot, no spark plugs, no carburetor?

Hi Bren,

Thanks for the update. Sounds like you are closing in here. I think your timing settings are getting very close. Cranking psi is still puzzling...

Do you drive the car with the vacuum advance unplugged, or is this only for tuning and timing? With the vacuum advance working you could run a little less initial, and end up with more advance at light throttle, which would then disappear once you go below 10 inches of vacuum, thus killing the detonation. I did not read every post here this time, so forgive me if I have missed some important element here in my reponse.

Argentina, I assume that 28 total is without the vacuum advance also. What advance pod are you then adding to the soup in the end. What do you think your advance total is at light throttle with the vacuum advance hooked up?

I have yet to hook the vac advance up. It is a 8.5 pod by the way if I do ever hook it.

That vacuum advance will get you better gas mileage.
