Hey Rob the rear end has already been pulled and is sitting in my backyard. It is an A-body 8 1/4 that has a bad ring gear. I am going to use it to replace the wimpy 7 1/4 that I have under my car now. About how much do you think it will cost?

I remember him and his valiant now that I think about it. He said it had a 416 or something like that in it.

I'll give him a call. Thanks!

I really have no idea what the cost would be for the labor. Do you already have the parts? There may be a drivetrain specialty shop closer to you that could set it up for you. Definitely give Gerald a call. He'll give you the real deal.

Post subject:  Update time...

Now that the racing season is starting up again and I've got Mopar Spring Fever in a big way, I thought I'd give a little update on things.

The blue Duster hasn't been touched since I parked it back in June 2006.

Someone did come forward and wants to race it at the Memorial Day race in Valdosta this year. Hopefully that will work out and he'll enjoy it.

I would like to try and make the race again this year, but I'm not sure that the three key ingredients will all come together (Army letting me go, finances, and the biggie: Wife's Approval) All three are still up in the air.

I did buy a better '73 Duster from Norm Foster to replace the tired body of the blue Duster. It's already set up for drag racing and just needs an engine and transmission. Time will tell if the engine and tranny get swapped over or if I've just got another race car on my hands to figure out what to do with.

If we wind up swapping the engine and transmission I will just continue this thread. If we go a different route and have a second car, then I'll start yet another thread...

The disease continues!

It looks like 66aCuda from Arkansas will be racing the blue Duster at Valdosta and may want to take it back to Arkansas with him to continue racing until his Barracuda is done. I guess it depends on how the Valdosta race shakes out.

There is a high school auto shop teacher near Atlanta that is interested in using one of the cars for his students, so maybe the white Duster will go there. I'll just need to come up with an engine and transmission for it. They will likely prefer to go with a V8, so I'll need to do some convincing to keep it Slant 6 powered. If it works out, they will probably be racing it at Paradise Dragstrip in Calhoun (Home track of Ron Parker, Norm Foster and Dale Rose).

I'll keep you posted....

"The best laid plans of mice and men..."

Both Dusters are still sitting there.

66aCuda is still interested, but hasn't been able to make it over from Arkansas yet.

The high school auto shop teacher went on summer break before he got the "go ahead" from his administration, so that hasn't panned out yet.

I'll update again if there's anything to update...

Post subject:  An Actual Update!

I just got an email from Frank and Cinda Brent. They picked up the blue Duster and are on their way back to Arkansas!

Ron, Rick and Roger: The roll bar and MSD ignition went with the car. Frank said he can weld, so the roll bar may actually get put in!

Cinda said in the email that the Duster sounds good!

I believe they plan on making it to St. Louis. :D

Finally an update that is actually an update! :D

**The white Duster (Norm Foster's old car) and Turismo 225 http://slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13947 are still sitting safe and sound at Joel's place. Frank and Cinda are planning on picking up the white Duster in October if all goes well. Then they will have both Dusters to do some grudge matches with each other.

Quail Duster versus Poultry Plymouth :D :D :D

Well THANKS to Rob.
Cinda is racing at St Louis. SHE is REALLY excited. Once we get pictures posted to the web we will post a link. Uneventful trip home and got 15.6 MPG not bad for a 4.2 V6. We will try to get it to the track this weekend and see what she will do
More as it unfolds.

Post subject:  Pictures on MySpace!

I'm using MySpace to post pictures of the Duster at:

www.myspace.com/CSL2g

Couldn't figure out how to get a picture to post... *sigh* I'm HTML challenged.

Am hoping Frank will take me to Memphis to watch drag racing later tonight!

I also hope to add more pics to MySpace of the Duster and racing ventures.

MANY MANY THANKS TO ROB for making this odd dream come true! I'm so hooked!!!!

Frank and Cinda did make it to the St. Louis race and Frank even won his first round! You can check out some of the details in the St. Louie post:

Where did the last year and a half go? :?

Frank and Cinda still have the blue Duster formerly known as GodsRods I. It has been renamed Quail Duster and will stay with Cinda as HER race car. :D

They've improved the best E.T. to a 15.15 I believe. I'll get the engine and tranny back to put into something else. Either Turismo 225, GodsRods II or some other car I pick up along the way.

Gary Bruner is building a race engine for the white Duster (GodsRods II) and the Turismo is still sitting where I left it back in June 2004. If I can get the Turismo project rolling forward again the engine and tranny will likely go there.

At some point I will start a new thread for GodsRods II.

Ditto!

There HAS been some progress on the new engine for GodRods II, but that should be another thread. I told myself I wouldn't start that thread until I had pictures, but I can't wait anymore...

Frank and Cinda haven't started a new thread to take over where this one leaves off. So, in honor of the car that really got me deep into Slant 6 drag racing:

The blue Duster formerly known as GodsRods I is still alive and well with Frank and Cinda Brent in Arkansas. They've made it to a few races and even won a couple rounds with it. Cinda said in an email a few weeks ago that she thought Frank had run a 14.8 with it at some point.

I don't know that the car will be called the Quail Duster anymore because they have gotten out of the phaesant and poultry business for the most part.

The engine and tranny haven't been pulled and shipped back for the Turismo yet. Frank and Cinda will likely race it as is again this season. I haven't asked them yet. I don't think they have another car ready to go yet.

The engine does have an issue with bending the #2 push rods that will have to be figured out before it goes into the Turismo. While it's out for the swap will be a good time to go through everything anyway. (something more for Gary to fiddle with :) )

So, there you have it. My annual project update.

Frank and Cinda, feel free to take over from here if you want or start a new thread or whatever. We can post here again when the drivetrain swap happens or you can continue with this thread and re-name it or something.

Actually the top is coming off the motor this month. Need to get the pushrod issue resolved before MD race. Also have the "new " engine ready for the Dart Wagon and If I can find a SG center in 3.55 or even 3.23 it may get raced this year. Have started work on the Dragster engine as well.

Hey Frank!

Sounds good. So, did you run a 14.8 in the Duster? I like to think we built a solid 14 second car :D

What other plans do you have for the Duster (other than figuring out the push rod issue)?

More lightening by dropping the bumpers, going with lexan...?

So, you will race the wagon and/or dragster and Cinda will race the Duster? When do you plan to build a new engine for Cinda? Are you still gonna call it Quail Duster?
