FYI, I run an electric fuel pump to the sump pump for the FiTech TBI, the fuel circulates through the sump and back to the tank (see above posts for details). Anyway, the other day I was working on my lights and I turned off the electric fuel pump. I left for work on Monday and forgot to turn the pump back on; my gas tank was above 1/2 full. I drove for about 40 miles and suddenly my car died, then I quickly realized it was the fuel pump. I flipped the switch back on and off I went (didn't actually stop, just coasted for a bit).

The point is that the sump pump was drawing gas from the gas tank without the electric fuel pump pushing it through the sump, at least while the tank was over 1/2 full. Once I got below half it was starved briefly until I turned on the electric fuel pump.

Just thought I'd share this. If you electric fuel pump were to fail in this configuration and you had more than 1/2 tank, you could go for 40 miles or so (full tank likely further) with this setup.

Interesting, and sensible... Your sump pump would pull some vacuum on the feed line coming from the tank.

NOTE: my FiTech is working very well, good response, cold starts instantly. If I'm driving and the engine is fully warmed up, shut off the engine, then let it sit for say an hour, then try to restart there is some heat soak...sort of. If you try to start, it'll crank and crank for 10-20 of seconds. But, you don't need to crank during this period, if you simply wait for 20 seconds, the sump's 50-60 psi will overcome the vapor and the injectors will finally get gas and you're good to go, starts right up. This only occurs after shutdown from full heat and waiting about an hour. Less than an hour, no problem, starts right up; more than an hour, no problem, starts right up. It's all that cast iron in the exhaust manifolds, lots of heat transferred to the TBI. It gets pretty hot after shutdown.

I do have a heat shield under the TBI and a 1/2" wood spacer, fyi.

I know this is an oooold post, but I'm new here and just found it. Are you still running the tbi setup? If so, how is it holding up? Also, can you tell me more about the sump system that you use, or that you made? I'm looking at doing the same setup on my 77 Dodge van. Thanks!

Yes, still running the FiTech, no issues. If you're interested in the sump setup, PM me. There is a good video on youtube detailing how to remove the float from the sump and recirculating fuel through it. Easy peasy.

FYI, I've seen some posts on other forums that suggest if one disconnects the battery that the FiTech will forget its programming. Others say no, it remembers. I can affirm the latter. I recently changed my battery and the FiTech programming was intact. No need to reprogram.
