Torque converter bolts are out, as of yesterday.

Getting closer!

I started on the engine to transmission bolts this afternoon, I've removed 4 of them so far.

So how many of them are there?

All of them! :D :D

One large one on each side at the bottom. 4 smaller ones between them.

2 bottom ones take a 5/8th wrench, the other 4 are 9/16th. One is in the front by the starter mount, the other 3 are in the backside.

Ok, I've removed 5 of them. The 6th one is the bolt holding on the tranny dipstick tube. Its in a really challenging spot.
I managed to turn it a few times, very small increments though.

Any suggestions?

Maybe drilling a hole in the firewall to where I can get a socket and ratchet combo on it?

No really...

wes, universal socket and a long extension.
since you have it broken free, drop to 1/4 drive. (at least right up at the bell housing)

when i am doing bell housing bolts i am usually using a 3' extension.
but then i do it for a living so i have all kinds of cool tools.

A couple extensions and a universal will work. It may be pinched a bit if all the other bolts are out.

I have a cheap E-Bay 24" extension and flex socket just for that bolt. Makes life a lot easier.

Ok, I got that bolt out.

The motor mount bolts are also loose.

I just have to support the tranny, but I'm not too sure about my cheap little floor jack, so I have to figure out an alternative.

Getting closer!

I started to pull the engine, but then I stopped.
My concern is that I won't be able to raise the engine high enough to get it out of the engine bay.
I'm thinking I should get some help with this, I'll see if a buddy of mine can come help.

So close...

Okay, today I did it.
The original slant six is out of the engine bay.
Hooboy, that was like work.
I needed more plywood for the floor of my storage space, but I got it out.

I planned to put the replacement slant in right after, but I've run out of steam for now.

So another baby step forward.

Ok, the replacement slant six is on the engine hoist, ready to be put in.
Should I remove the trans, or just drop the engine in?
What do I need to be careful of when installing the engine?

Post subject:  Re: Volare project

If the trans is in place i would just drop in the engine. Go slow, keep everything clear. Install the oil pump NOW since you have to jack the motor up to install it in an F body. Easier to install the manifolds now, too.
