Post subject:  I almost had it!!

I love this car.

After getting everything hooked up and adding fuel and water this thing fired up at the first push of the button! :D Sounded really good too.

Unfortunately, the super duper overkill fuel pump leaks around the positive wire terminal. :( :?

I can tighten a fitting, but this one requires the pump to be taken apart.

I didn’t have another 3/8” pipe plug, so this had to do for now...

This fuel system is really overkill for this mild set up anyway. Maybe I should just grab a stock fuel pump instead. A little re-plumbing and it should work just fine.

I’m going to fiddle on something else for a bit now... Either the ‘61 Valiant (several things to work on) or the ‘72 Dart (won’t idle, leaking fuel line at the pump and leaking brake fitting).

We will see Lou. I'm researching fuel pumps now. I don't need something this big, but will get another decent electric pump. I may want to throw a little laughing gas at this thing someday...

Angie suggested she and the boys get me a pair of slicks for my birthday next week. Slicks for the Duster will be cheaper than for the Challenger!

I support Angie's and the boys' gift idea!

Yeah,... I’m pricing slicks now... $194 each for M/T 28X9X15... :| The ones for the Challenger are more like $250 each...

I dug out the ancient Holley blue fuel pump that originally came with the Duster way back in 200... I don’t remember when. It had been sitting in a bucket of parts and didn’t work... I took it apart tonight and it actually seems okay. I’m a Poser and have no clue what I’m doing and will probably never get it back together, but you never know.

It looks like it had just been sitting and the shaft stuck. When I put power to it, it acted like the motor wanted to turn. I now have the shaft spinning freely, but I’m not sure how to get the brushes installed back into the case. There must be a trick to it... I’ll check YouTube.

Bend a U out of coat hanger wire to hold the brushes in while you lower the top back on.

I’ll give that a try. Thanks.

Thanks, but I'll come up with sumthin'... I took another look at the M/T street radials I ran back when I raced it the last time (2012-13?)Those are down to the cords too.

The slicks are just a tad taller than the ET streets, which will probably be good for the Duster. It tends to run out of steam toward the top of the 1/4 mile.

Lou challenged me to a grudge match, so I s'pose I'd better clean up my act a bit...

I ordered new M/T 28X9-15 slicks and a new Carter fuel pump and filter for the Duster today. Just because...

I stopped by Ace Signs & Graphics Friday. They were able to find the old files with the names and graphics.

Dale Givan was Michael’s 4-H Marksmanship and Archery leader. He is also a professional welder. He welded up a receiver hitch and tow hubs for Stella to tow the Duster. Thanks again Dale! :D
