I love the magnetic attachment idea. I bet you could also do that with a rear spoiler or above-the-rear-glass wing. Might look into that...

I did make a lower front pan for the front from .040 aluminum sheet. My knees are killing me but it looks like it will work great, and was a fun project. I used the Miata molded plastic design as a guide for both concept and execution. If I can remember how to post a photo I will take a picture or two and post them.

The simple explanation is that I created "Z" channel by pop riveting together two pieces of aluminum 1" angle iron and put a 34" long length of this between the two tabs that stick our from the core support on most A body cars, and another between the after market sway bar tabs on the K member. I then fit the pan between these two, and wrapped the sides up just outside the frame rails. It extends past and under the sway bar about 3" beyond the K member front. The frame rails are 34" wide from the outside of one to the outside of the other. Those afore mentioned tabs are 20" apart, so the lateral support rails stick out 7" on each side of them. I think the sway bar tabs are also about 20" apart.

This involved two major bends in the pan. The first bend it down to get to the lower level of the K member, the second bends back up to make it level as it extends below and past the sway bar. I may extend this a little further back at some point. There is a 90 degree bend of a 1/2 inch stiffening tab at the front. I did all the bends by clamping the work between the work bench and a board. .040 aluminum is pretty easy to bend.

I had to cut out clearance slots for the sway bar itself, as they come down and hit it when fully dropped. I may pop rivet a cap on those slots, or may just leave them open. A cap would make it stronger.

The current front air dam is from an old Ford Ranger, which is a little too narrow. I may look for one from a bigger Ford F 150 to extend it further to the edges so as to cover more of the wheels. That's another project for another day.

Yes I did have it up on jack stands, but my knees are still killing me. That is too much time down on the concrete floor. To be 40 again. You 40-year-olds out there: Don't complain. Wish I had a lift.

Here we go.

The pan does not show up at all in normal viewing. This is with the car jacked way up, and me on the floor with the camera pointed up. With the car at normal height you can still hardly see it, even when youi are down on the floor.

Well, almost. The code above the photo should not be there. I followed the instructions here on the forum. It is as if there is an extra letter or two at the end of the address. I do not know why it worked at all. But, there is the photo. So, I guess it happened.

Thanks Man. It was fun. And, I had to figure out how to get a photo on here again. Stretched my brain a bit. Or moved the dummy border over some. I can't wait to drive it. It has been raining since, and unlike you real men up there in the North, my toy cars stay inside in bad weather.

I thought that is what I did. What did you do differently? I don't get it. My stupid border just moved back towards me a bit. I copied the img code in photobucket and then started it with just like it says. Is that what you did?

I see now that the code I copied has about 4 extra letters beyond the code you copied. I must have clicked on the wrong box. I will check that out.

Not to hi-jack my own thread, but I am wondering if I could get away with blocking off the entire upper grill area in the winter. This might help it warm up faster. There is as much opening in the bumper now as most new cars have in the front. The new lower pan will make sure the lower opening feeds all incoming air through the radiator.
