Thanks PJ and Edd for the party, fun get together. Rob and Chase made it to Paradise fine and thats a pretty good test, Bay area traffic then 80 then the climb to Paraidise and Magalia. That car will fly up that mountain no problem. And their Kentuckian is more understandable than Edd Amish/polish dialect.

Post subject:  Killer Bees ROCK!!!

I'm sitting here at a Quality Inn in Roseburg, OR. :D

We'll get up to Woodburn tomorrow. The Duster runs like a champ! Cruises down the highway at (or slightly above) the posted speed limit with ease.

Chase loves his new ride! :D

Highlights so far:

Earl picked us up at the airport in Sacramento and took us to the car in Stockton. A quick adjustment to the driver side seat belt and we were on the way to Sunnyvale to check out the Dutra Skunk Works. Here's one of Chase's notes...

On the way to Sunnyvale:

I was driving down the highway from Stockton to Sunnyvale (Yes, the boy was driving on California Highways the day after he got his permit! :D )... when some hobo with a shotgun tried to jack my ride. Luckily, I was going too fast (without speeding  ) for him to do much, but he did manage to blow out the passenger rear tire. We stopped at a Firestone where they jipped us on 4 tires of the SAME size. (The car had Bigs & Littles sorta with some 245/60s on the back and 225/60s on the front. They only had the 225s [Nice # at least  ], so we had to go with that.)

I have NO idea where that boy gets his sense of humor.

HUGE thanks to Doug and Allen Dutra for going over so many little issues with the car and getting us squared away for this trip! We crashed the first night at their place.

Allen fixed some electrical gremlins with the stereo while Doug went over several things that needed attention. He wound up doing a valve adjustment, radiator flush, lower radiator and heater hoses as well as prying a header tube away from the steering coupler and replacing a lug stud and two lug nuts. Several other little things as well.

THEN, they led us up to Paradise to make sure we made it okay!

We got to check out Bruce and Wendy Pine's rides before heading over to Edd & PJ Jesiolowski's for a BBQ with several fellow Slanters. What a great group of folks! :D The next morning we had breakfast with the Dutras and got to see Dana Prater's '69 Valiant and PJ's Demon which absolutely WOWed Chase! Edd welded extensions onto the Thrush mufflers to ease the droning sound. The car still has the cool sound Chase likes, but doesn't beat you to death by having the mufflers end right under the driver's seat. Thank you so much Edd!!

After lunch at In & Out Burger with Edd & PJ we headed North. We were going to stop at Medford, but decided to push on to Roseburg. The car runs great! No issues whatsoever. The color has grown on Chase and he is even debating whether or not he wants to change the front sheetmetal over to Demon. He wants to focus on performance upgrades first.

We're having a blast and meeting some of the greatest people on earth! Thanks Killer Bees!!! :D :D :D

Post subject:  22 Mpg!! :-)

I forgot to mention that "Stella" is averaging 22 MPG too.

Lots of "Thumbs Up" and comments. One guy at a gas stop thought she was a Nova... We set him straight though.

We're going to see if we can ad an air dam under the front bumper and see if we can bump the MPG up a notch or two. :D

Your about 90 miles south of us now. If you're any good at knocking tin, I have some aluminum that you could use for your hyper-mileing air dam. I Think my brake will handle what your trying to do.

Since the track won't open up till three, we don't plan to head out until after noon tomorrow. It's about 50 miles to the track from here. The Hoopie is loaded up, so we'll be loading camping gear and such. We have spare tents, so if you haven't got one, let me know.

Fopar is crashed out in one of our guest rooms, and it's time for me to head for bed as well. Quality Inn has a pool? At this hour?

Waiting for laundry to dry...

A little "field expedient" repair to the wiper arm linkage and we're ready to roll. :D The clips holding the linkage to the diver side pivot are missing, so we cut up a couple plastic bottle tops to serve as clips.

Be on the way soon!

We'll chat about the air dam idea this weekend. That would be great to fab something up. :D

See you all soon! :D

Rob, you can get those wiper retainers at Pep Boys or any parts store that has a 'HELP'/Dorman section.

I've got some in my toolbox out in the garage if you need them.

Yes, they were for my Duster.

Post subject:  Welll....

Chase spent most of the time snoozing in the Duster...I call that 'bonding'. I gave Rob a set of Napa bushings that were in my Duster's ashtray for his wipers...

Test and Tune got rained out, hopefully we get a break tomorrow and get our bracket run. The clouds didn't look good on the horizon when I headed home this evening.

More fun soon,
