1" is fine. I usually run about 3/4" or so. I tried 2" once and that is too much. ![]() |

Post subject: | Tranny lines |
Since I have no experience with automatics. Would it better best to find the cooler lines somewhere or just make up my own? Do they need to be steel or can they be aluminum? All I have ever seen are steel so I'm guessing steel. Anyone have any extras laying with their extra "junk"? I ordered my kickdown cable today and paint shop should have the doo,r splash pan, and dash in primer today. The other door and trunk will be bare shortly and head to the shop for primer. It will be really cool to see the car with doors , and trunk mounted. As soon as they are mounted , I think I will go ahead and set the motor and tranny in place! WOOO HOOO !!! ![]() Rick |

Wow, great progress, Rick! Steel lines for trans cooler. NHRA specs no lengths of rubber hose >12". If you use any rubber hose (not preferable), make sure it's specifically tranny cooler hose. Fuel hose breaks down really fast and you get high pressure leaks... I just run a large-ish external tranny cooler attached under the pass seat, and bend my own lines to that. I don't bother with the radiator lower tank then. I'm sure someone will tell me I can't do this, but I ran this on my '64 Dart on the street, strip, and track for several years and have the same setup on Project V. You can make it! Lou |

Charlie, I'm not sure you keep track of how many cars you're building yourself! Lou |

It's like a 10 X 14" finned cheapy tranny cooler, GVW 20,000 or somesuch. Had on 2 different cars over last 15 yrs... I have it angled down (about 25 deg) with the top (aft) edge of it screwed/tied to the pass seat brackets under the car, and the bottom (fore) edge dropped down and held on by some $1 90deg 5" long shelf brackets from Lowes. Scoops the air up a little under the car. Lou |

Lou, I helped change a broken trans in a certain '68 Valiant down at Clay City. I was surprised to find the cooler on it was a Moroso vane type that just hung off the passenger side of the trans on short braided steel hoses. Lou ![]() Yes, you can do that. ![]() |

D, I remember that! Note to everyone that it was a broken case, not internal breakage. Mike was makin' some powah... Lou |

mine hangs down under the drivers seat at a 35deg. angle its one from a newer dodge truck and i've had no problems with over heat until I make 3+ back to back passes at the strip like at test and tune |

It is always nice when you are almost done ripping stuff apart, and then you begin reassembly. Today my son, Denny came over and help strip all the underside of the trunk lid. Ryan had helped me earlier in the week and we have the second door ready for primer. Then the only panels left are the front fenders. I brought home the parts that the painter finished, and the dash needs to set about a week, and then i will do the final sanding and it will go back for paint. While it is setting, I thought I might as well set it in the car. I also renistalled the rear side glass frames and installed the track rubbers and even set one of the windows in place. That was a really good feeling. Now I'll reassemble the door that I have primered and mount it onto the car. Then it will look better yet. I also got my kick down linkage in the mail. And Slantzilla should be picking up the shifter down at his shop and sending it out next week. ![]() ![]() Yes there is glass in that there window ![]() Thanks for listening. |

Post subject: | E Brake |
Also was wondering if anyone has ever hooked up an E-brake handle mounted on the hump between the seats like most modern cars have. I have good rear cables to my drums, but with my frame connectors installed it does create some problems up front. Nothing I can't fix, but the center mounted handle appeals to me. If you have done it, let me know how! ![]() Rick |

I am going down by the shop tomorrow. I do not know if I can get into it or not, they got more snow there than we did here. ![]() |
