Great progress for sure...what does a two piece timing cover look like? What is its purpose? I got a stock cover from Mike Jefferies with a cam button that he added for me.
What is the nearest SL6 race date to Canada on the east coast?
Thanks Derek

Thanks Lou.

Yes I hope to have the new drivetrain in the Car in march - That should allow for plenty of shakedown passes in here at PIT for April and May before hagerstown.

I am just waiting on stuff from Mike J pretty much now. I will probably make the Drain plug tonite and leak test the pan. I emailed midwest today so I should be getting a converter soon!

Derek,

The Closest northe east Slant race is In maryland about 5 Hours away From New York City.

Check Here:
http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=38550

About a 19 Hour Dirve for you and ~1900KM trip.

The Split timing cover will have a cam button too.

It is used to access the adjustable timing gear - I will take a stock timing cover and basically slice off the top for an access point to the gear.

Like this one:

I know that motor, and it's not yours, methinks. I've turned wrenches on that cover, I believe. Where did that pic come from?

I just drilled 4 holes in the front 1" diameter and put caplugs in 'em. We'll see how that works...

Derek, if Hagerstown attracts some upper East Coast folks this year, then we will probably try to get a race going in NJ or NY in next or future years.

Lou

You're right Lou!

That's Cameron's motor money shot.

I think he emailed it to me a while back.

I have had it on my computer forever. I have the whole shot too.

Quite impressive.

It's simple really. Camoeron Tilley made some adjustable cam sprockets. With the 2-piece timing cover you can remove the top part and adjust the cam timing without pulling the damper and such. I might have to get one of his timing sets and fab my own 2-piece cover so I can do easy cam timing adjustments with the Bonneville engine.

The button keeps the cam from walking back and forth. Pretty simple, braze a 3/8th fine nut on the cover and use a rocker adjuster. :D

Just finished up the oil pan.

I had 3 small leaks that I found on the leak test. Welded those up nice and tight. Put a 1/2-20 Magentic drain plug in From the parts store.

Now onto sizing up the dipstick and Getting the timing cover cut apart and modified.

That is a good accomplishment to get it welded up leak free. Looks nice.

Thnaks Lou.- Yeah, leak free isn't really an option with an oil pan; It HAS to be leak free or else!

I think it looks quite ugly, but that's me.

Also Got a hold of midwest TQ's gave them my cam and Gear Weight and tire size etc. and They said My Converter should ship by the end of the week for $375 + shipping. ALso said it should stall around 4000 for this cam.

I'll have some work to do to keep up with you at Hagerstown... What's your ET goal - 12s?

Well My first Package from Mike arrived.

The Windage tray and scraper.

I had only small interference issues on the scraper for counter weights and Throws Near #1 and No clearance issues with the windage tray whatsoever.

Also Started laying out and building the Split timing cover and cam button.

Pics Below.

Enjoy,

Greg
