For 300 hp? You don't need to beef up a 727.

fair enough,

still, how would I go about beefing up the 727 Torqueflite? :D
Do nothing to the 727. its way strong enough.

I really want to keep the 727 because its what the car came with from factory.
I'm sorry but I don't think that's right. VCs only came from the factory with 904 transmissions. 727 transmissions weren't put in Aussie Valiants until 1971, and were only used with the 340 and 360 V8 models.

Not to doubt you or make you mad, however do you know how to tell the difference between the 2? The 2 trannys look a lot alike.

As far as I know there was never a 727 slant six trans made until after 1966. I know that as fact, here in the states, don't know about there. Just because it is called a torqueflyte doesn't mean it is a 727. The 904's were also torqueflytes. You need to look under the car and see what the trans pan looks like. Look in the area of the dipstik tube. if the pan has a "kick out" by the tube it is a 727, if it is straight, it is a 904. I think the Aussie cars also had a BW trans available, but I don't know what years.
Can some one post a picture of that trans pans?

Here's some reading for you Shazzam66
Valiant VC Technical Specifications
Engine and Transmission options are down the bottom of the page. I don't take any pleasure in proving someone wrong, I just think it's in you're best interest to be 100% on what trans you have before you start throwing horse power at it. But hey, if it turns out it is a 727, then good for you. There's some dollars saved not having to beef up a 904.
In the 904's defence though, they can be built to take some power. A guy in my car club has an Aussie Charger with a Vortech supercharged EFI 360 V8 producing 473rwhp and runs the 1/4 mile in 11.3 @ 121mph. And he's been using a 904 Torqueflite for years. :D

The 904 is not a weak trans. Most racers (of slants) use a 904 cause it will take just about anything a slant 6 race engine can dish out. Its a lot lighter than a 727 and doesnt consume as much HP. Remember that the 904 came behind a lot of V8s.

I still havent checked,

however I stand corrected, they come stock with the A904

however im almost certain I have the 727, because when my uncle got the car off a little old lady, the tranny was stuffed so he replaced it with another, which I believe to be the 727.

Ill have to ask him again which it is.

727 "Slant 6" transmissions are allot more hard to come by than 904's. I would do as Charrlie says and just look. It really easy ans then you know for sure with no guessing.

OK, lets examine this.
Car is a 1966. If the engine is original, it has the small pocket in the end of the crankshaft.
The crank pocket got larger in 1968, along with the pilot on the torque converter.
The slant six 727 trans was not available untill after 1968, so it would have the large pilot on the converter.
The 904 converter will not fit the 727 trans.
Ergo the slant six 727 trans will not fit up to the 66 engin/crank.

The only way that car could have a 727, would be if the engine/crank was changed out to a newer one, or the trans is a small block 727 installed with the "approx" 3/4 inch thick mopar trans/bellhousing adapter, and crank adapter. It would also require a custom driveshaft, since the trans is longer and also moved rearward (spacer/adapter), and the front yoke is different.

Someone correct me if my logic is flawed.

That's a lot of effort to go to.

 I was just about to reply "don't forget this is an Aussie Valiant"

It would have to be a small block 727 since there were no Slant 6 727s produced by Chrysler Australia.

Here is my experience with adding a bit of power to an old six inarow.

When i was 16, i bought my first car, 75 dart custom (im 23 now),
My girl was a real sleeper, i dropped about 5k in her, and kept a pretty close run with all the little 5.0 mustangers who think they are fast.

I had oversized valves, msd ignition with high output spark units, custom dual 2 bbl manifold with deuce 240 webers, 2 piece shorty headers, running to an x with dual flowmaster 40's. Mild 264 cam, disabled smog, premium gas, and a recurved disty, few other small mods that i cant remember.

this setup gave awesome throttle response, decent gas milege, and tire spinning when really stepping into it around the fun curves here in MO

just a little build i had, i did lighten the car alot, so that really helped launchoffs, but like i said i gave the stangers a run for their money :)
