Getting closer….

I need to bump “get a car lift” higher up on the priority list…

It sure is nice to be able to get up under a car to work on it and just be able to see things from underneath.

The exhaust is done. I got Lou’s engine from the totaled ToadRacer and an engine hoist loaded in the trailer.

I’m going to play with the corner scales Howard gave me years ago to weigh the Challenger.

He made them back in the 90s when he was building Hillside Six.

Common bathroom scales with a fulcrum and multiply the readings by four. I verified each one with my body weight…. Your mileage may vary…

The scales are pretty cool. The Challenger currently weighs 1,964 pounds without the 195 pound driver, battery, water pump, radiator, fuel, etc.

I’m confident it will be solidly in A class. I was hoping for more lightness so I’d be closer to the bottom of the class, but that’s okay.

Very cool, Rob. 50 lbs is worth a lot at that weight range...

I made quite a bit of progress on the Challenger this evening.

Water pump and most hoses are done.

I re-routed and changed around some wiring due to the fuel cell, water pump and radiator all being in different places.

I installed the torque converter bolts with loc-tite (after I cut an access hole in the bottom of the bellhousing.

I moved the shifter cable over to the passenger side, running it under the bellhousing/oil pan area.

I’ve done it that way on the Duster, ToadRacer and a couple others with headers and it has worked well. YMMV.

Oh yeah… I also added some lightness… The section I cut out of the bellhousing was 1 ounce and the unneeded shifter rod bracket was another 5 ounces… Just another 1,594 ounces to go to cut a tenth…

Howard will be here in the morning. I told him I was working on the radiator and hoses… He said I’m just scared not to run water… Lol.

They haven’t run water in Hillside Six for many years. He says all the tractor pull guys do that…

Even if it ain’t got one of them high falootin’ billet aluminum heads on it…? :?

They just have a couple fans that blow air at the front of the engine…

One of my jury rigged fittings is leaking… and that WOULD cut some decent weight off the nose of the car…. :| :|

He did not, but may have wanted to a time or two…

It felt amazing to fire it up easily and even test the trans brake in the garage.

I need to find a couple more RPM chips for the 2 step. The only launch chip I have is a 3700. I think I’ll be leaving something on the table with that.
Maybe I’ll swap it for the 6000 I have and let it launch off the converter…
:?

I had a bag of chips but I ate them yesterday :D

Glad it sounds good! It will probably feel good too! I'm excited for you.
