Post subject:  Whats the best header setup for a street driven /6
I think i've heard a little about people not liking the MP performance 6into1 header.
I know theres the clifford 6into2,
but I dont know anything about the Dutra dual..

Can someone clue me in,, on whats best/cheapest/easiest to install ?

The engines a 225, in a 72 duster, auto, daily driver. Other mods right away will be either a supersix setup or the proline single weber.

For a daily driver, best choice is Dutra Duals. For a little more power, and not much more trouble, but less lifetime, get the Clifford Street Rod headers or the MP 6X1. MP 6X1 hangs lower though, so watch those speed bumps...

I would also suggest a set of Dutra Duals for a street driven car. They are actually cast iron, TRUE dual manifolds. You can get just the front manifold, then modify your existing exhaust, (or have it done at a local weld shop), so as to use the outlet and back half, retaining your conventional choke stove pocket. They will also last much longer than tubes.

I can't really judge the differences between 6x1 or 6x2 headers, but I was never really pleased with the headers on my old rat-powered Chevelle, twenty years ago.

Sorry, I meant to add to my other post. Street car, best = Dutra dual system. Never liked headers on a daily driver. I have Clifford long tube 6 into 2, on my Cuda. But it is a sometimes street driven race car. Mopar 6 into 1, I think would be the cheapeast. For a street/strip car, I would lean toward the Clifford shorty header.

I've hooker headers, 6 to 2, custom made on the car. But I'll tell you, if I were living anywhere nearer the US than I am and customs office ain't sux, I'd rather get a Dutra Duals. They gonna flow way better than your stock sys, wouldn't be a pain in the ass to install, and they are the closest thing to a mopar mind developement you'll be likely to find. Plus, Doc is a great guy and he'll help you as no muffler shop will do.

by the way, even with regular mufflers, my 2" duals are a pain in the ass in city driving sometimes, and you have to be over 2800 rpm or so to be able to listen to music or think again 8)

By the way, I've told doc (i think...) but local chrysler used duals just like his DD in a super six powered car down here from 74 to 79. they used "2 secondaries and tailpipe, with a Y tubing making those dual a weird 6 to 1

Go for a pair of Dutra Duals. Use a compact starter and if you live in a cold climate, pump coolant water to the underside of the intake manifold to make it work in Winter. The DD's are cast iron and heavier but once you get them installed they should last forever.

I've got just the single front Dutra on my car and it made a genuine difference in mid-range power and throttle response. If I decide not to sell my car I may have to spring for the rear too.

Does anyone have a pic or the p/n for the Clifford "street rod.. or shorty" header.

I checked their website,,and they dont show any pictures,, and I didn't see any reference to a shorty or street rod header..

I vote for the Clifford Street Rod headers. I had a set for 8+ years and 150,000+ miles, and they never leaked or caused any trouble. In the winter, a piece of aluminum dryer ducting and a couple big hose clamps made a nice heated air induction system that always worked well for me.

I got more than my money's worth out of them.

The headers on my Ford leak like crazy. And they were not overtorqued. I would go with the Dutra duals if I were you. Not unless you enjoy replacing header gaskets every three years. I think Hooker makes a set of Headers for the slant also. That is what I was told at Pep Boys. They laughed when I asked for a set of headers for a slant.
