I'm getting the A/C going on my Wagon. (It was 108 yesterday) The only part I'm missing is the vacuum controlled heater control valve. The one I need attaches to the inner fender with 3 screws and has 2 vacuum connections. Anybody know the MOPAR part number? I COULD use one that is spring loaded and has one vacuum connection. Normally open or closed. Any ideas?

I don't know what your valve is supposed to look like, but I couldn't find one for my 1976 Valiant some years ago. It uses a single vacuum hose. Valve is normally open. Needs vacuum to close it.
Anyway, I looked at the pictures of all the valves in the book at the parts store until I found one that had the correct size heater hose nipples and then I had to bend the bracket around to make it fit the car similar to the original.

I have one from a 74 Valiant that had A/C. It is the single vac hose connection type. lemme know if you want it we can make a deal.

The double-acting vacuum type was used through '70 and there are many part numbers, none of which I have to hand right now. This will be strictly a NOS deal; they aren't available in the aftermarket. Also, the valve and the vacuum pot assembly are serviced separately. You *cannot* just drop in the spring loaded type; you'd also have to add the vacuum reservoir/check valve assembly as used in '71 up A-bodies with the vacuum type valve.

The last issue is the Heater Control Valve. I'm in Souther California so putting a manual valve inline with the heater hose would be okay. If I could round up the part numbers I could search for the parts. I found the A/C pushbutton control switch at a place in Canada. $45. They said they probably have the Heater Control Valve but they'd need to have a part number. I understand the Vacuum Drive and the Valve are seperate pieces. I don't have either.

There are 2 vacuum lines going to the Drive. One for push and the other for pull. Wouldn't it work to use a normally closed, spring loaded valve and attach only the opening vacuum line and plug the other? Or the other way around for that matter.

I'll round up the parts sooner or later. Right now it'll be good just to have the A/C. It's been as high as 108 here the last few weeks.

Mike

No need to go to Canada for the pushbutton switch, it's available right over the counter at NAPA in the Echlin line, P/N HC205.

Heater valve: I'd really recommend you find NOS parts here. No, you cannot just hook up one vacuum line to the one vacuum fitting on a spring-loaded valve -- you MUST have the vacuum reservoir and check valve to use the spring loaded valve! Otherwise the spring will overcome the vacuum each and every time you step on the gas, cruise up a hill, etc. Depending on whether you install a vacuum-to-close or vacuum-to-open spring loaded valve, this would either result in heat when you didn't want it or no heat when you did want it.
