A knocking noise coming from the bottom end of the engine could be a loose bolt on the flywheel, but I would suspect other things first, unless someone has been monkeying with the flywheel lately. I would look at worn out rod bearings or possibly the crankshaft hitting the oil dipstick first. |

i was the guest that asked the question . i was reading thru the archive answers and to find a knock they said to pull plug wires while running, and if it stop knocking you need new rod bearings. well i started and the back went forward and when i pulled the forth wire it stop knocking so i got my answer that was needed. Know i like to know if i can change the rod bearings in the car by pulling the oil pan and working from under the car? |

You can pull the pan with the engine in car, but you will need to lift the engine up about 2" or so to clear the K-Frame. Depending on how bad the damage is your crank or rod may need some machine work. |

You are better off if you spend the extra time and pull the engine. As noted above, the crank and connecting rod need to be reground smooth and round or any new bearing you install will fail quickly. DD |
