| Post subject: | Fix For Power Steering Gearbox Leak? |
Hi Gang, I have a power steering gear box that leaks fluid all over the place from the sector shaft adjusting screw. This pic should explain it all. I have tried on more than one occasion to tighten the nut and it still leaks. I might have tweaked something by overtightening. How might I fix this problem outside of replacing the whole unit? I could keep adding fluid but I hate the thought of polluting the reasonably pristine Oregon environment. Thanks, Tom |

Try a brass plumbing washer. Might help, depending on why it's leaking. |

There is usually an aluminum ID tag under the nut that also works as a seal. I don't remember right now if the center of the hole in the ID tag has a rubber center or not. Either way, looks like yours is missing. |

There is also an o-ring seal under that cover (two really, one for the cover and one for the screw), but the cover must be removed to access the one for the screw, if I remember correctly. D/W |

Thanks guys. I put an extra rubber o-ring under the nut and now have no more leaks. I was just worried that I would loosen something and parts would fly everywhere. Tom |
