I am curious about using webbers. I wanted to do something new with my induction, and I now have a functional Super - 6. I want to go further and get a more sophisticated induction system.

I'm not going with EFI right now, but I have been considering single or dual webbers. Aside from looking cool, what advantages / disadvantages do they have. Are they "good" carbs?

Lastly, I know that offy used to make a 2x2 intake for the / engine, but I don't know if they are still available or where. Also, does anyone know if the single webber can be used with my super-6 intake, and if someone makes an adapter for such a usage. Eventually the car will have ~75-100 HP of Spray :shock: and be built up to ~165 HP at the wheels without it. Would the webbers (single or double) be sufficient for this application :?:

Proline Fuel has the duel webbers and the adapter for 1 webber to a standard intake or super.

Chris (of proline) is a regular member around here someplace.

I think the biggests problems are price related. Since all the parts are new, not easily found used, you pay premium. ($350 or more for twin) I don't doubt that they are 'good' carbs, although I've never owned one.

Linkages arn't really a 'problem', but something WILL need to be fabricated for kickdown on an automatic transmission.

I recall seeing that the webbers had removable/upgradeable venturies, so they should easily feed 165 hp if adjusted correctly.

Sure would be nice to get some solid before and after track times and mileage calculations, although I believe the proline site has some testimonials.

Weber's by themselves are excellent carbs. They are also expensive. You can buy rebuilt Holley/Weber 5200s (32/36 DGAV knock offs) from http://www.stoveboltengineco.com/ for $60.

Offenhauser does not make the 2x2 intake anymore. But the 2x1 intake can be modified to handle a 2v carb. This is the basis for the Proline setup.

Not to butt in here, but what I think I'm hearing is that I can buy the 2-1 manifold from summit, have it machined, buy 2 2bbl holly-webbers from stovebolt for $60.each, and I've basically got the same setup that proline is selling for $785 ?

Of course the Proline setup is all new stuff, and its ready to bolt on,, no-machining. And I dont know the cost of the 2-1 manifold from summit, but sounds like you could put together the same setup if you dont mind used stuff.

The Proline setup uses a different carb. Not the Holley-Weber type.

Marc is correct, the carbs on the dual setups are weber 38's I believe, non progressive 2 bbl carbs that can be synchronized.

The single setups use a Weber DGEV 32/36 2 bbl progressive.

The weber/Holley 5200 at stovebolt is actually a 32/36 DFAV, emphasis on the "F". (Make sure when you are ordering aircleaner assemblies and choke items you remember that it is a DFAV) It is basically the mirror image of the DGAV. A electric choke conversion can be had for $10 from all state carbs in NY.

I believe the "F" identifies the carbs orientation. It is also Italian.

Yeah, you could duplicate the basic setup that Proline/Redline/Pierce sells using the offy manifold and the Holly/Weber carbs. There are several people that have used those carbs in dual setups on old lo-po 235 Chevs with excelent results. The advantage of buying from Proline is that, presumably the carbs have been matched to the \6. With a "roll your own" setup, you would need to tune the carbs yourself.

Hi all, I have a twin two barrel manifold on the bench at this very moment that im tring to get going.. in Australia! Im setting mine up with bbd carters. Do you guys have any thoughts on them? My slant is stock 60000 miles, mopar orange box, extractors into a 2 1/2 inch system.Its in a 1965 AP5 valiant. I also have the pushbutton auto...very cool..
By the way have any of guys run a holley street avenger 465 on a slant on a offy? we have a replica manifold made by cain that is also in the shed waiting... While im here i might mention that slants with triple webers / delortos head work, hi compression, big cam smash most v8 cars!!! Im alittle surprised that more of you have not tried them...

Does Weber make a 1-barrel ? The acclerator pump on my Holley 1945 died so I think I might use that as an excuse to put a bigger carb on it.

Does the DFAV/5200 have the same flange bolt pattern as a DGV?

$180 to make my staged 6 pack using my Triple SU intake seems a LOT nicer on the wallet than $1,200 worth of Webers.

Could I run them without chokes?

You can buy the "Holley"/Weber from Tom Langdon at Stovebolt but I think the better carb is the Carter/Weber that he sells. It's a new 2bbl progressive with electric choke. You will have to figure out some kind of Plenum system for this setup to work. I'm trying to do that now with my 6 Pak setup.
