Greetings, all! I am new to this group and was told to come here for some helpful advice! I have an '83 Ram which was formally a 1bbl Holley, and I purchased a complete "super six" intake/exhaust manifold, carter carb, and breather. I rebuilt the carb myself, cleaned everything up, bolted it on and got it running.

However, once it warmed up a little, the engine won't hold an idle. It feels like it is starving for fuel. I made numerous adjustments to the idle mixture screws and no change. As far as vaccum lines, all I have hooked up are Dist, egr, pcv, and Choke pull off. All other ports are plugged. As best as I know, I have the floats adjusted right in the carb; although this carb rebuild being my first one it's possible I've made mistakes. Engine cold it will idle, but when it warms up it won't.

Any ideas? Thanks for the help, I am anxious to see the difference from the 1bbl to the 2 bbl

I have had a problem with the idle fuel pickup tubes falling out of the venturi cluster (or what ever they call it). Then it get NO fuel at all to the idle circuit on which ever side(s) the tube(s) fell out of.

Other possibility is that your rebuild kit came with two different gaskets for throttle body to carb bowl and you used the wrong one and now have a vacuum leak.

There could be other problems too but start with those. Do not overtighten the screws that hold the carburetor together. Most people seriously overtighten carburetor screws and all that does is warp everything and make leaks.
