Post subject:  Question for Doc Dodge or Slantophile

I know the two of you have slant e-bodies so I figured I would ask the two of you this question. My throttle cable snapped earlier this week and was trying to replace it with the one I picked up with my super six setup (from a truck) but it wont work to short from the firewall to the peddle. The one I had was about 29 inches long total length (think it was the original but not sure). Can either of you tell me the length of yours or if an a or f-body cable will work from the firewall to the peddle?

Thanks
Brian

The SL6 E-Body we have has a Super Six but the cable is about 24 inches long.
I think it is the standard 1bbl SL6 throttle cable.

If you need something longer, look at the FWD 2.2 cars, the cable used it those "swaps-in' and it is pretty long.

Thanks Doc, I knew the one I had on it was a little long on the engine side but worked for the peddle side. I guess a trip to the junk yard and parts store is in order, thinking the 2.2 might be the ticket since the 2.2 will have the square style firewall connection that I need. I may also try one of the local motorcycle shops and see if they can use my existing housing and put a new cable in it.

Eric, no need to thank me for keeping it slant powered, I went out looking for a slanted e-body to use as a daily driver and that is what I found. It's the second e-body I have owned, my first car was a 1970 440-6pak 4spd shell with a 318 auto when I owned it (back in 1988). I made the mistake of selling it even though it had a really rough body even back then. This one I am taking the time to turn into a driver that I can use 8 months outta the year and it will remain a slant car......but the 3 speed will be replaced with a 5 speed hopefully next spring.

I will measure my throttle cable length sometime in the next couple days, never had to replace the cable yet. I have broken cables in my a body cars, and did have success finding usable throttle cable replacments out of 1980's Ramchargers and pickup trucks. I was out of town at Monster Mopar in St. Louis, it was a great time.

When I put the Super Six on my Duster I used the original cable from the F-body the manifold came out of. It was about 4" shorter than the stock 1bbl cable that was in the Duster.

Then makes me believe the F-body cable is outta the question as well...One other note that may be of interested to some of you out there, my old throttle cable is a square firewall connection so I guess the E-body connection changed from round to square somewhere around 71? I was reading the throttle cable primer on AndyF's arengineering site to see if that would help me but none of the cables listed there match my original length. I am gonna try a few motorcycle shops today to see if anyone can use the existing housing and replace the wire cable. Someday's I wish I could find someone who is pulling a slant out of an e-body for a big block just so I could pilfer all the slant parts. Oh well, maybe the motorcycle shop can help.
