Post subject:  Sos!!!!no Oil Psi

Details first: 1960 VALIANT with 170 bought as unfinished project with professionally rebuilt engine.Engine has not been run on road since rebuild but has run and run well with good oil pressure(dont have numbers but light went out immediatelly and rocker shafts oiled well).
I removed the engine to install Comp Cams and do some headwork.
The only thing that changed was the cam and head the rest of engine was left alone, when the oil pump was reinstalled I packed it with vaseline. The engine has set for about 3 months since being reassembled.
Tonight I attempted to prime the engine before initial startup(known good mech.oil pressure guage has been installed)crankcase has been filled with 10w30.
My first atempt was cranking for about 30 seconds and no pressure!!Tried again -no pressure, 4 more times same result, batterey getting weak, put charger on battery, checked oil filter, stand pipe(could blow through top of it)pick up and screen was not removed and was clean, tried again same results(cranking only about 30 seconds at a time).
tried several more time crankling only about 30 seconds at a time still nothing not even budging the guage.
What could be wrong????
Also do you think that I wiped the lube off the cam (IT WAS LUBED REAL GOOD)or other internal damage?
Please help ,Im getting worried and frustrated.
Thanks in advance

Could this be the classic wrongly machined cam? There are many posts here about the passage in the back journal being drilled wrong on some blanks.
If you had pressure before, and the only thing you changed related to oiling is the cam, that's where I'd start looking.
As far as the lube, you've smeared it around but probably not rinsed/slung it off; however, you may get a chance to re-lube it anyway :(

Try removing the oil filter, and cranking the engine. See if you get oil there. If not, then the problem must be oil pump, or pick up problem. Might be stupid question, but, is the cam turning?

Post subject:  My Thots on Oil probs

Oil pressure is usually picked up before cam so miss aligned cam hole should not be a factor here for no oil pressure. Agree with previous post- remove filter (or pressure sending unit) and if no oil, problem is upstream: pump not working, pickup tube plugged or loose (sucking air), not enough oil, or as Charlie said, cam not turning. (Pull your distributor to observe this or if the valve cover is pulled - are the rockers dancing?)

A BIG THANKS TO ALL!! Charlies idea of removing the filter and cranking engine worked,When I did that the pump blew out a wad of vaseline then proceeded to fill up the filter.I got 52 psi of pressure cranking with a hot battery and no plugs installed and the rocker arms was oiling really good. Thanks again .
