Post subject:  Speedo gear question

while at the yard today I also got the speedo gear from the Volare I took the rear out of. rigtht now my speedometer is way off (go 60mph and reads 70mph)since installing the 3.23 gears. Is there a wrong way to put the rear in? do you ahve to line up marks or anyting like that?
Thanks
Phil

Put the rear in? or the speedo gear in ?

The adaptor the gear fits into can be installed in the transmission in one of four orientations depending on the number of teeth the gear has.
Clean off the dirt so you can see the markings and numbers. You will find it marked with numbers to show a range of pinion teeth, find the range that includes the number of teeth on your pinion. Then install the adaptor in the correct orientation in the transmission.
Gosh, I can't remember how that is, but someone else here will chime in.
Notice the hole through the speedo adaptor is not in the center of the adaptor.

thanks Craig, I probably would have destroyed the new gear if you hadn't posted, you da man! :)
I think it is accurate now. 60mph=60mph
