| Post subject: | Broken Speedo cable--removal from gauge? |
The tip of my speedometer cable broke off inside my auto-meter speedo....any suggestions on how to remove the broken piece so I can install a new cable? Tried a magnet, cable does not appear to be magnetic. Tried a push-pin, not enough room to get beside the broken piece and work it out. Tried shaking the living crap out of the gauge, no moving. The broken piece is not stuck, as it slid further in From what I can tell the gauge does not come apart (at least not easily). Anyone have any other ideas, or am I out of luck? -S/6 |

Ideas: 1. Single strand of very fine copper wire, with a very slight hook a the very end. 2. Invert, shake, and flush gently with WD40 or some such. 3. Invert, vibrate with something that, um, vibrates. |

Something you can form and is sticky... like playdough or a wad of tape maybe? Call up autometer, I think they have a customer service # on their site. How did the cable break? |

Thanks for the ideas. Will see about giving them a try Sunday at halftime. How it broke--the cable end connector slipped off the gauge, but the cable stayed. I would guess the added stress to the cable itself, without the support of the outer casing, finally snapped the 18 year old cable. -S/6 |
