| Post subject: | Ram Air set up |
Does anyone know the best way to make a ram air set up? Something under the hood that can not be seen from the outside so keeping the stock look. Maybe a flex pipe into the front by the radiator? I saw one for sale on ebay which has a pipe going into the fender (so stated the right up) But how would that work? Any surgestions appreciated

I have one of the 'F' body 'Fresh Air' setups, they went through the fender and got nice cold air from behind the driver's side headlight (much better than heated under hood air from the standard silenced air cleaner). I don't have a matching pie tin any more, but I do have the plastic duct (you'll need to modify to make it work for an A-body), and the flexible hose. Some 1 barrel cars came this way, maybe someone will sell a pietin with freshair snorkel to you on the cheap. I'll dig it out tomorrow and take a picture for you. -D.Idiot |

The easiest way would be as DI suggested to use the F-body air cleaner. I think for true ram air, you might need to mount the intake into the rad support rather than going behind the headlight. Something else you might want to consider: if you make a big increase in the air going to the engine you might want to adjust the jetting. A land speed racer that I met over the summer found that his top speed went down after hooking up a ram air system. I scanned some information about Chrysler hood scoop science for him but never found out if it were any use to him. On my 63 dart I found there to be a perfect round hole in the core support, by the battery tray. Then the cogs began turning, What could I use for na intake tube to tie into the 66 air cleaner base I'm using? I have the 2bbl set up. While at the pick a part I found the "right" part. I believe it comes from a K car or other front drive. It is an intake tube that is very flexible and with a little trimming works great. Ihave taken photos with a phone, but now need to get them on line here.I sent them to my e-mail just to save them. Maybe someone here knows how I can do this. Anyway the set-up works great nand don't look half bad either. |

 I'd sell the plastic fender tube, and the flex hose for $5+shipping. The pietin with the correct snorkel is just for 'show', that's my only real super six pietin left (I still need it!!!!). Sorry it took so long, family came first today!  -D.Idiot |

I installed an F body fresh air package into my GT by cutting a hole in the fender next to the battery. with some tweaking it aligns perfectly with the matching air cleaner. |

My junkyard setup... I used a 'lean burn' pie tin for the super six install because the orginal one had been scarfed already. If you plug up the opening for the LB electrical box it should work just like the correct one. Plus I think it's kinda comical to have the LB sticker on there. Someday I'll by the right one but it won't make me go any faster so no rush.

Northeast Scamp, It's hard to tell from your photo where is the air intake. It looks as if it is drawing air from between the battery and the rad support. If that's the case, it would be more of a fresh air setup than a ram air setup. You've done a nice job with the installation, BTW. A ram air setup, however, would have to draw it air supply from a high pressure area resulting from the speed of the car. The forward side of the rad support would be a convenient place. Your right Frank, just fresh air, hopefully cooler than if drawn from the open snorkle position. I've cut the hard plastic tube at a pretty funky angle and it seals up to the rad support opening behind the driver side blinker light housing fairly well. I'm planning on adding some light sheet metal to further seal the intake area off from the rest of the engine compartment, just for the heck of it. Never been to a junkyard before I started messing with this car, now I look forwared to each trip and wonder what I might find! Todd |

Here's my similar setup. I used a flexible bilge vent hose from a Yamaha WaterCraft to connect the air cleaner horn to an existing hole in the radiator support behind the grill.

| Post subject: | Desert Hog Air filter |
Has anyone tryed the Desert Hog air filter with the ram air set up? It fits in the pie tin like a regular air filter but has the flow capabilities of a K & N type filter. I think it is sold at Kragens/checker stores. |
