Ok I have a 1971 198 block that we are rebuilding and when we pulled off the harmonic ballancer and cleaned it we noticed that it has a crack running through it and needs replaced.

With a junkyard being the only viable (low cost) way to get one is it possible to grab an harmonic ballancer out of any /6?

The original motor has factory AC on it if that matters in determining a match.

Looking to put this motor back in the car asap, everything is done except for this surprise crack. Thanks for any help and info you may have.

You need the balancer off any /6 from 1970+ (you might be able to use one from a 68-69, just look at where the timing tab is placed on the timing chain cover, there are only 2 styles where the TDC notch lies.

Make sure to check the rubber on the balancer it can be in bad shape also....

I'd just buy a reconditioned one from Damper Doctors/Damper Dudes in Calif. so I wouldn't have to worry about it on a rebuilt engine.
