WHERE DO YOU GET THE LONG PIPE THAT SOME SLANTS HAD ATTACHED TO THE OIL FILTER BOSS? mY 65 VALIANT DID NOT HAVE ONE NEITHER DID THE NEW OIL PUMP OR THE PARTS 170 I HAVE LAYING IN THE YARD. DO I NEED IT??/?

I need one too! Someone please give us a source for this.

They came stock on both my '74 , and both '76 dusters... try a 'late A-body' or maybe 70's truck.

Bought mine from the delaer a couple months ago... # 3577848. When you get it, observe it carefully and make sure the valve opens down into the oil pump. When I got mine, it was misassembled and opend up into the oil filter. After some tweaking I managed to get it into the right spot.

I have never run one, and have had no problems or premature wear. I guess I have logged about 230k Slanted miles. My '68 Dart has 110k miles since it's 1989 rebuild, and has never had one.

Not that I think it's a bad idea, I've just never bothered.

Obviously it doesn't seem to matter which way it goes, I've run both ways, can anybody tell me(us) what the purpose is.

It keeps oil in the filter and won't allow it to drain through the engine when the engine isn't running. It helps build pressure quicker upon startup, supposedly preventing premature wear of engine parts.

Don't confuse this with the anti-drainback valve in oil filters, which keep oil from daining back into the oil pan.
