A friend offered me his spare 318 until I can find the time and money to rebuild my 225 for my new 1982 dodge pickup. Is there a bellhousing that will allow me to to connect to the A-833 transmission? I tried one, but is was too small for the bearing retainer on the trans.

It sounds like you have the overdrive (OD) 833 4-speed.
There is a special SB V8 to OD 833 trans. bellhousing for that combination.
