I have a chance to get a 904 from a 78 Volare that was rebuilt 10k ago. Will it fit my 69 Valiant? I realize some linkage will have to be transfered.
Will the "hump" accept this?
Thanks!

As far as replacing one 904 with another, physically 904s are all the same size, (unless you are going from a pre 65 to a post 65 with the 2 oil pumps, thats another issue), so as long as they both have slant 6 bellhousings, no trouble. If the 69 has its original engine ( or at least one newer than about 67) then you won't have any torque converter issues either, BUT if you have an older slant, the converter won't work. The pilot hole in the crank for the nub on the converter "grew" about 1967. On the linkage, if you stay with all of the linkage that is on the 69, you should be fine. Just don't try and mix/match, thats where you run into trouble.

The 78 transmission may have a lock-up converter. Not a problem, but just don't try and mix and match converters.
