OK, I've decided that the "six" is the way to go. I would like to make it easier to drive so out with the "three on the tree". I'd like to put a 727, but I'm not sure that they actually even made a b body slant 727 combination (I know this doesn't meand that it's not possible). Whats the best set up? Where would I get the best possible doner? I know that linkage will need to be made for the kickdown. I'm thinking that the lokar setup for the others might be adaptable. The column and pedals are handled by a doner car. BTW it's a '71 9 passenger Satellite wagon. Any help would be great! Thanks, Sam |

There is a 727 trans made for the SL6, ("G" engine) this special case transmission started in 1970 and was mostly used in the Tradesman Vans. In fact, I talked to a friend who has a completly rebuilt one for sale: Bob Arana (209) 333-8403 (Lodi, CA) Do you already have the engine? DD |

I think the 727 might be overkill behind a slant. Not only is it a much heavier transmission but it takes more horsepower to turn it. I think a 904 would stand up to whatever use you might intend, inless you use your wagon to haul fully loaded trailers or are going to build a 500 HP motor and do neutral drops all day. |

My 1985 d-150 truck has a 727 behind the slant 6. I can't say if it has lots of negative weight and power problems, but I don't have anything to compare it to. Perhaps it's why my gas mileage is so bad. I've found cost to be the big factor. My used 727 cost 3 times what a used 904 cost. But it's Ram tough. The 727 has a longer tailshaft, so a driveshaft shortening is usually involved between a 904 and 727. A 904 would be good enough, but a good 727 would last forever, and ever, and ever. |

Well, the other thing that I have to consider is the availability of an overdrive unit for the AT. GV makes an OD unit for the 727, but not the 904. I do like the idea of saving weight (it's a little overweight right now as it is), but I am also going to be building the car for daily use. I specialize in motor electronics so you can be assured that we will be installing port fuel injection and the possibility of a turbo is there as well. I'm tired of building the same old gas guzzling big blocks. I know it's not a race car and never will be, but when fuel here is about to hit the $3 for 91 octane, I'll still be cruising when everyone else leaves there gas hog in the garage. |

If you want an automatic with overdrive (don't we all?) why not just spend the oney now to upgrade to a A-500 or A-518 and use the adapter plates. These transmissions are factory overdrive units that came in 88-95 or so dodge trucks and vans,. THey have the small-block bolt pattern but will bolt right up to a slant six by using either the original factory adapters put in A-100 trucks and vans or the new remanufactured adapters currently being produced (who makes these? I forgot...) I plan to do this someday on my 72 road runner. A 225 with an A-500 (based on the 904, the A-518 is based on the 727) and an 8 3/4 rear end could run rear 4.10 gears on the street and still get okay mileage. |

I had no idea that these where adaptable. Then I could run a lock up converter as well. Anyone know of the manufacturer of these adapters? |
