If you can get the car weight down it isn't that hard. My street Slant car has been as low as 14:20 @3250#. That is relatively heavy for a Slant car. |

If money and time where free. ![]() I'd say 15's are a lot easier without spraying or some kind of forced induction. Shaving off a couple of more seconds makes is exponentially harder and more expensive in my estimation. Streetable and daily driven are obviously two different things as well. Keep in mind that when an expert says it's easy, how many years and how much money do they have invested. I'm hoping to get into the low 18's or maybe even high 17's by late summer of '05. Mostly the cost is in my time, but I've got about $1300 in parts. I think a cam and a stall converter would put me right into the high 15's. Maybe Santa will be extra good to me next year. |

I have heard from serious racers that it takes about $100 to improve a tenth in the 1/4. so if you are running 18.0 and want to get down to 13.99 you are looking at about $4000. The first time I dragraced I ran an 18.6. I then put almost $1000 into head work, headers/exhust, and a rear. that dropped me to 16.8 so I got 18 tenths for 10 $100's. Though I did save myself a couple $100 on porting. Now by racing season this spring I will have a cam, tires, faster advance, 4 barrel intake and carb, and lower trans gears for about only $400 more(it pays to be lucky sometimes). I'll post the improved times in may. I'm hoping for high 15's. |
