Post subject:  Floppy side mirror fix?

Next on the problem list: my mirror!

I have a nice driver's side mirror on my 62 Lancer that has too much play in it. it basically flops down and is useless. I was told that its possible to try and use a small punch to put a indentation in the ball of the mirror that would hold it in place? Or do you pinch the housing down on the ball?

Anyone have any suggestions as to a fix? I'd hate to replace the otherwise very very nice mirror.

I have some pictures of it here:

Thanks again

take the glass out of the front, it should have a thin metal ring that holds it in place, once this is out you will see the pivot area, you might get lucky & just tighten up the screws holding the pivot, otherwise that would be the area you dimple/punch to take the slop out. Enjoy your ride!!!!!!
