Have a new cam for the "low buck drag project". The cam card recommended valve springs, with a certain pressure. I have some different springs on the shelf, that were bought at "bargin prices". Example, 340 springs, mopar performance spring, 2 sets of different Crane springs, al with unknown specs. To compare specs, I put a bathroom scale on my hydraulic press, placed the spring on the scale and compressed all the springs, to the hight on the cam card, and read the pressure on the scale. It may not be as accurate as a "real" spring tester, but it will work for comparing springs, to pick the best set available. |

That is a great tip, never thought about checking a spring that way. I should check a few springs using your method and "cross check" with my friend's spring tester. Once I have correlation this would be a quick way to check with a good amount of accuracy. DD |
