| Post subject: | Transmission bushing hole |
I need some information concerning manual transmission compatibility with the hole in the back of the crank. It’s the hole the manual transmission shaft fits into which I’ll called the transmission bushing hole. While shopping for a core to rebuild and then replace my cracked block, I was told by a machinist that the cranks are made with different bore diameter to mount to a variety of transmission models. Is this true? And, if so, shouldn’t I be able to purchase a bushing to fit regardless of the hole in the crank hub? Thanks: dna |

The actual Pilot bushing hole should be the same on all slants - now the hub that the flywheel / torque converter mounts to. 60 - 67 have the small hub 68 - Up have the bigger hub Hope this info is helpful. |

Just about all of the cranks have the bushing hole drilled. Only the cranks intended for manual transmissions, are finished honed, so the bushing will actually fit. NAPA, at one time, sold a bushing that would fit into the unfinished hole. Or you could do what I did and take a normal bushing, chucked it up in a drill and hone it down with a flat file until it fits the hole. Then I lightly tap it into place. This has lasted me for close to 10 years now. |

You can also use the roller bearing for a Dakota truck. |

Thanks for your input. After weighing my options, I'm leaning towards sleeving my block while it's being rebuilt. |
