How do you adjust the accelerator pump on a Holley 1945. My car stumbles pretty bad unless you stomp it hard. And why is there three slots on the little thingy that actuates the acclerator pump? Are these different pump settings or something. Right now the rod is in outside slot (the longest). |

The longest slot is used with automatic transmission. The only adjustment as such is the length of the rod that fits in that slot. You'll have to look up the specification someplace or someone here can help if we know the year of the car or what the carburetor is from. Check that the carb to manifold nuts are tight and that the thick gasket is not leaking. I've had mine stumble on light acceleration but not on hard acceleration. It was those nuts loose and with light throttle the carb tilted and created a vacuum leak. Harder acceleration was not affected much by that leak. |

It is on a 74 Duster (engine out of 75, head off of a 74, remanufactured carb) It has an automatic. |

Remove the air filter and looking into the carb, move the throttle off the idle stop. How far do you have to move the throttle before you begin your pump shot? The accelerator pump linkage has a 'U' shape. You may have to lengthen this linkage by spreading apart the 'U' to take up any excess clearance. This will get the pump working as soon as you start to open the throttle. When you open the throttle fully, do you get a full pump shot? If not, then the pump diaphragm might need replacement. Also, there is a steel check ball just under the top cover that seats after the pump stroke to prevent pulling air back into the pump well. If this is contaminated with gum or varnish, it may not be seating. Also, look for a dirty pump discharge tube. Mitch |
