I just got ahold of '65 1/2 D100 with a 225 Slant 6.
She runs but there are some iissuesand not sure where to to start.

Work has been done (new altntr, new cap, rotor, points, and 2 barrel carb looks to have been cleaned up).

First is she is hard to start even with the choke all the way over and if I pump the gas it seems to flood.

Once started the exhaust is VERY black and sooty (although dry so that's good). And it wants to stall when fed the accellegas pedalickly. I'm guessing the air/fuel is set way too rich and needs to be backed off.

Been a number of years since I've messed with a carb points set at all so not too sure what to go after first. I advanced the distributor as far as i could until the clip hit the block and that helped a little bit, but something else needs to be done.

Any help appreciated...

If it has the carter 2bbl, maybe the metering-rods are stuck?
Take of the cover on top of the carb, with 1 small screw on it, and try to move the rods down a bit. They should jump back up, when you release them.

There is a second bolt and slot on the bottom side of the distributor plate, that can give you additional distributor rotation and advance. Do you have a timing light? Where is the initial and total advance currently set?

If it were me, I would pull the valve cover off and check the valve lash adjustment. (get a new gasket first)
Poor starting and rough running could be caused by incorrect valve lash. (to tight)

Once you have the valves lash and spark timing set correctly, I would move onto the carb. (if needed)
