What product(s) do you guys use to clean moldy interiors? (carpet, cloth, vinyl, etc.) Any certain trick that has worked well for you? I'm all ears. Thanks.

I use a mild bleach solution on vinyl and hard plastic, which works pretty good. I just scrub the daylights out of fabric with soap and water. I'd be interested to hear what others use on fabric, and in general. A couple years ago I left my Duster parked in the dank garage of my old house for a couple of months in the middle of summer, and when I pulled it out, the black interior was white :!:  I spent a whole day scrubbing and swearing. Since that incident, if I leave anything set up for awhile (it's mega-humid here most of the year), I now toss a bunch of dessicant packs inside periodically (which we conveniently throw out where I work, but I think can be purchased for cheep, too).

One of two ways for me, first, because its easier, Simple Green, you can buy it anywhere and its a very strong biodegradeable cleaner. It will eat up almost anything you don't want on your car and if your not careful will take paint off at full strength.
The other option you have is to find a industrial bathroom cleaner called VIREX. Don't ask me how to find it or what it is, all I know is we had a 72 scamp for a while under a cover and when we opened it up we found the car covered in mold. We just threw this stuff all over and scrubbed it in somewhat, let it sit for 15 minutes and came back with a garden hose. Drove the car that night with no problems, smelled allright and I believe the stains went away to.

You must be talking about mildew on the outside, right?

Nope, that was inside the car, about an inch deep. It didn't hurt the seats/carpets or anything.

Yeah, I'd thought of bleach water, but need something for cloth, too. And I can't get away with hosing down my interior (way too many frayed wires would short out...) Are you guys trying to tell me you've never had to clean a moldy car? Lucky bunch... zorg

"You must be talkin to the other guys..." -DW

Yeah, sorry about that. Apparently you were about the only one listening, though... I guess I'll go with good ol bleach water, and leave the cloth, since it's not that bad (and in someone else's c***y...). Thanks again.

Oh yeah, hey Dennis, reading your posts on the "64 440" thread reminded me what I love about this forum. Keep sharing more than we ask, us kids can't find that kind of info many places anymore. You the man. -zorg

 Thanks, dude, but I'm just a regular ole' car nut.

I'm probably not as wisened and grey as you think I am either ;) Oh, I've been around long enough to bust a knuckle or two, but I'm just a kid (ok, maybe a bit of grey, brought about by hours on end contorting under dashboards and hammering on piss-poor Mopar front-ends...)

But seriously, experience has tought me a thing or two, but also reading the scads of literature that is available, a veritable lifetime of perusing car mags, and hanging out and talking to other knowledgeable people (an inate ability to vet out bullshitters and know-it-alls helps in that area) has all paid off. The internet is a very recent development, and one would be advised to proceed very cautiously here on the net because although there is info at your fingertips, BS abounds too. Anyway, what I'm saying is everything that has shaped me over the years is out there for all, just read up, friend up and go get your hands dirty.

I'll take that challenge> I've NEVER had to clean mold from any car, not to say that the original carpets in the GT aren't getting to be on the ripe side (its called character ya know) :D
