Hey there still trying to get "the perfect recurve" and I think that's prolly like Doc said about cams, there's no magic recipes till you get to single out the perfect match for your mill, but still here I goes... I'm dialing in 3 diffrent dists (so I can use the car while fiddling with another chances) and I found out that as less mech timing I'm dialing (goes along with more initial) stiffer springs works better than light springs. In fact, I'm running a very nice curve now (still not perfect I intend to have a nice low end pep and still no ping when wotting the beast. Any advise? |

I used a 15L governer with a yellow light spring and red heavy spring. I also have an 8.5 vacuum pod. I was still having problems with pinging at 10 degrees initial, but backing off the vacuum advance one turn with an allan wrench cured that. Its not very snappy off the line, but on the open road it loves 75+! I'm thinking of putting in a lighter blue spring I have with the red heavy to see what happens. Its all trial and error, spending some quality time with the engine. Don't forget the also facter in the adjustable vacuum pod when tuning the distributer. |

Hey Eric Experts advise against going over 32 degrees total advance + vac pod. Doc specifically stated that a mill wich gonna see lot of wot would be happier around 30... You're using a 15 govnor (wich means that it allows 30 degrees of advance, remember that you have to double the number to get crank degrees) that's why it was pinging at high rpm range. It's the same govnor I had on this distributer before recurving it. (You got it on ebay? ) 75+ is my cruisin speed... love how my mill sounds at that. It's less noisy than traveling @55~60... |

i welded the advance plat slots a bit to shorten the mech adavance. i used 2 light stock springs and set initial to 17 and total to 30, vacum advance is not hooked up. it works great on my 100,000 mile stock slant. and yes, i ran a test and tune day at the track and 30 total seemed to be spot on and produced the fastest times. --chad |

yep... I think that larger initial timing values brings a nicer off the line feel. Do you have auto or manual transmission? I had a previous setp very similar to yours, but on my car, 15 initial with 8.5 working vac pod and then the last 3 or 4 degrees coming on when vac pod is starting to pull off (by using one heavy spring) seems to be working nicer (again, on my car). I have a 904 behind my slant. |
