I would like to find out the correct attachment of a vin plate on a 65 Dart. Is it held on with screws, rosette rivets, aluminum rivets, steel rivets, or some other way? Are the rivets on the plates in the engine compartment the same? Can someone post a photo of their vin plate? Doesn’t have to be the whole plate with the number just the way it is attached to the pillar. Why we are on the subject, how are the plates attached on other Chrysler vehicles. I want to avoid buying one of these classics with a tampered vin.

IIRC, the plate on my '66 is just plain steel rivets. I think the rosettes started when they put them in the dashboard. Mine may have had the plate out of it at one time too. (Wrecked Southern car)

I just checked 3 of my 65s (Dart GT convert, Dart wagon and Barracuda) and none of the vin plates are rivited to the body. Some type of super adhesive maybe.

My 65 Valiant was not riveted either. It has holes in the VIN Plate though?

The dart I was looking at has the holes also without the rivets, and seems to be glued on. That is why I was curious about how they are supposed to be attached. I have been searching the internet and can't find any useful info about this.

All three of mine (plus I bet the Valiant convert - at mother's house and Valiant hardtop - at mother-in-law's house) also have the holes. IIRC my 65 Coronet 440 convert just has the holes and is, I guess, glued on. Data tags in the engine compartments are all secured by a round head philips screw (done the same way up through the 80s - my 81 Imperial is also done that way

My '65 Dart has the holes in the plate and is secured with what looks to be hollow rivets. The plate on the right fender inside the engine compartment uses philps screws. If I remember right my old '64 Dart had the same arrangement.

My 65 dart vin plate on the door is glued on and has the holes on the vin plate. Tags on the fender are philips head screws (same as most folks above)
