Thanks for the linx... Hey, racers, I've got the 264 Comp cam installed straight up right now... 60' times a little slow, you know the deal - should I try advancing my cam while I'm swapping chains? Is this gonna slow me down on the top end significantly? Thanks, D/W |

Timing chain for a Chevy 454 ($20.49)Chain = 9168 Crank sprocket = S339 Cam sprocket = S338 Generic Crank Sprocket ($33.49) Generic Cam Sprocket ($33.49) Total $87.47, all prices from Napa Online. Dan, are these peices the same dimentions as factory gears, or are they slightly larger or smaller? How long did it take to find this 'needle in a haystack' combination of parts? Thanks for the info! -S/6 |

Just curious - what are the advantages of a roller timing chain? |

Less friction/wear, less stretch over time, and in my case, the part-store replacement non-roller chain I'm running on the Duster is noisy as hell at certain RPMs. I'm gonna do the modification to the galley plug to get more oil to the chain while I'm in there, too. D/W |

I say advance the cam 2-4 degrees and see how it goes. From several racers, I've heard that advancing the cam over factory spec helps almost across the board with little drop at high RPM. I have not done experimentation on this myself, I'm afraid. I think the cam grinder companies spec V8 centerlines on Slant cams, and the Slant probably likes a little more cam advance. Lou |

The Comp Cam 264 is ground with a built in 4* advance, I think it installs at 106*. This means, on a stock cam with the gear dots lined up, the cam is in at 110*, the Comp 264 with the dots lined up, will be in at 106*. Of cource, because of tolerance stacking, all cams should be degreed in. |

Doesn't someone make a single roller chain for the six? |
