 Post subject: Intrepid bucket seats

I know that some people have used the sebring seats, but I was wondering are intrepid seats the same bolt pattern? Found some near by on a 94 intrepid but can't go look at them until the weekend.

I have the standard issue bench in my 71 now and want to upgrade with minimal fabrication. I know for sebring seats all you have to do is drill two holes per side and add some support underneath. I'm hoping its that easy for sebring seats too.

Also, I've sat in a '94 intrepid years ago. IIRC the belts were bolted to the frame, not integrated into the seat. Will stock belts work with these seats?

No matter which seats you use, you will have to fabricate brackets to fit your car. I'm not sure, but I would bet the Intrepid seat base is nearly identical to the Sebring.

Using your stock seat belts shouldn't be a problem.

I thought I read somewhere omni/horizon/sundance/etc seats used the same 12x12" pattern. I k now I will probalby have to make some bracketry, but want to keep it to a minimum.

64 Convert, did you ever get pictures of your sebring setup on the net? I have read past posts of yours mentioning them. I'd like to see the brackets you made.

so let me get this right i can take sebring seats. make some holes and they should fit?

i ask this cause i would like to change my bench seat out. and my wife always wanteed a sebring seeing i cant get her that but atleast she can think she's sittin in one. :D

no really i want to change out my seat but have no idea what to do.

Went through all the sections of the junkyard today. Nothing looks like its going to be drop in, as expected. Lots came close, but no dice. I found a set of buckets in a 64 mopar (valient, I believe) that I was about to snag but then I realized the floor pan, and therefore brackets, were different so I passed.

I used BMW buckets on my car. Had to drill 3 holes and use some sort of thick washers under 3 bolts to keep it leveled. Its worth the worh, though.

I'm not familiar with Coronado's. 77... So I'm guessing probably an F body or similar? Looks full size by the picture.

Is your floor panel relatively flat? On my 71 duster (67-74 as well judging by what I've read, 75,76 have a hump in the floor pan due to cat. converter) the side of the seat towards the closest door is raised (and higher towards the front then the back, as well). But the inside towards the transmission is flat. This makes simple bracket building a little bit tricky.

I'm not sure if I passed the BMW section but I looked through all the fords, chevys, chryslers, toyotas, hondas, saturns... most of them had rails with 90 degree bends in them, so the bolts would mount parallel to the length of the car, not straight down towards the ground.

Funny thing about chrysler argentina is that they kept the A body based frames until 1980. My car is based on a 67 dart wheelbase and frame, then diffrent "dressing". Wheelbase is 111" lengt 197" width 71" height 56"

my floor pans are anything but flat. I have to level the brackets by using some delrin spacers I lined outta solid stock. Needless to say the brackets ain't supported by the floorpans at some points, but still BMW brackets are sturdy so the buckets feel and are tight.

Those buckets are the only thing I felt comfortable with, since they're heigh regulable and I'm 6.5 foot... anything higer and I'll be knockin my head on the roof and sure will end like a hunchback...

The advantage of the Sebring convertible seats is that they have built-in 3-point safety belts that require no additional anchor points. That's not the case with Sebring sedan or Intrepid (etc.) seats.

An update... I found some bucket rails on the moparts classifieds, ended up being $82 shipped. Just picked up buckets from a 96 Ford Escort 2 door ala wrecking yard, $26/each. They are a bit dirty, but nothing a good scrub can't get out. No rips/holes/etc. They are a nice fabric, which will be a welcome change from vinyl when it hits 100degF here in the summer.

Only downside is they are lighter in color, a grey of sorts with a random string of color every now and then. They look like the ones in the car in this auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 36205&rd=1

Bolt pattern on the seats themself is 12". If you get the generic sliders availible with some spacers made, these seats can be a cheap/easy upgrade if you can't find stock sliders. So keep the fords in mind when you go junkyard hunting. Also noticed those late 80's to 90's camaro seats are the same pattern but I couldn't find a matching set in good condition here.

Argh. I was happy today, bustin out the old broken studs on the mopar brackets I got (man that took forever)... when I put them up against the seats I realized the bolt pattern is about 1/8" off. Nothing ever seems to go right. I guess next time I should be a bit more careful with the tapemeasure.

And to make matters worse, I assumed the bolt pattern is square so I didn't measure width, just length. Another mistake, width was ~16" while length was about 12". I'm fairly sure there is enough room on the floorpan to drill the holes 16" apart width wise, but I'm not certain about clearance against the tranny tunner. We'll find out soon nuff....

Ok, ok point and laugh, I deserve it.
