well, the time has come for me to rebuild my engine. i want to mill the head to bump the compression a bit. i want to keep compression around 9:1 and be able to run 87 octane. i know i cant tell for sure without measuring it out but as a general rule of thumb, what amount should i take off to get about 9:1 compression?

also from a past post i found this,

For the same price, if you were to do what Dennis has is to have comp grind an extreme energy cam with the 262 lobe out of their catalog, it's much more aggressive than the 264 Dennis has better lift, and still would have good street manners (stall convertor probably will be needed).

how high of a stall would i need to run on my 904 converter to run this cam? would this cam be good to run with 9:1 compression. what other opinions are there on this cam on a street car.

ill be calling comp tomorow but wanted to get this out to you guys and get some opinions. sorry for the cam and head questions again but i just want to get this right.

Most cam grinders can tell you what static compression ratio to target with a selected profile. One key factor will be the lobe seperation / overlap.

In general, a 260 duration cam with around .460 lift, ground on a 110 LSA will do well on pump gas with 9 to 9.5 static compression. The advance curve you run will have a big impact on the fuel quality you will need.

There is no good way to know how much to mill off the block and head to get that compression ratio, you have to measure and do the math.
