I am not sure how to word this;

regarding the plastic bezel that goes over the clear covering in a 62 a body, JUST the outer face of the gauge cluster, can anyone tell me what years these are interchangeable? I am referring to a '62 lancer, and I need to know how universal this part is. I am not very familiar with the early a-bodies.

The dash bezels on '62 Valiants and Lancers aren't identical (trapezoidal vs. round gauge windows & oil light), but are interchangeable.

No other year or model is even a little bit close.

damn! :evil:

I know you know your stuff dan, I just want to make sure we are talking about the same piece, the removable face of the gauge cluster, holding everything back, just the face and not all the other gizmo's behind it.

I don't mean to say you don't know what I am talking about, I just mean that I really don't know if I am describing it correctly.

I have a picture, I just don't have a hosting service to post it here anymore.

He's correct, that particular layout was unique to '62.

Naw, it's cool, no offence or anything, but yeah, you're doing a fine job describing it and it really is a one-year-only deal.

thanks guys-

I am just bummed because its a one year only deal, I guess I just didn't want to beleive it.

what was so wrong with it that they only used it for one year?

There was nothing wrong with it, in fact I think it was the best design of all the early a-bodies. Entire styling of the a-body changed in 63, not just the dash. Earlier ones were perhaps more artisitic but ot nearly as readable. Later ones used the same general theme but with changes to the layout. The simple gauges with legible marking and high contrast color schemes were simply the best that Chrysler did before or after for many years.

I couldn't find anything wrong with it either, I was just wondering if there was some sort of egghead reason.

In those days, change for the sake of change was reason enough. There was an annual rush to get the new models out and it was obligatory for them to be significantly different from previous models to entice buyers to trade up every year. Things are somewhat different now.
